Fished with Crystal, my girlfriend, this weekend in the nice autumn weather. We paddled the canoe to get away from the crowds and found some wonderful fishing. Soft hackles were the way to go…Biggest fish of the trip was a 23 inch brown…lost at the net…..the most agonizing loss I’ve ever experienced. This was Crystal’s 3rd trip, and SHE was the one who brought him in…a dark orange hook-jawed male in slow, deep, dark, spooky water. The fight was total chaos–with me coaching her on how to keep the line tight and let him run as he rolled, surfaced, then plunged nose-down into the depths. It was 10 minutes of adrenaline we’ll never forget.
Here’s my first attempt at some pics:

We fished all day and stopped here for 15 minutes before returning home….now I remember why I stopped fishing Cow Shoals…
