MemberIf I were going lake run brown fishing I’d start by assessing water conditions, if feasable sight fish then use hex nymphs and stonefly nymphs, then try general attractors like franks flies.

MemberI’m not knocking sage, just saying that I’ve never seen a fly rod that wasn’t a sage break on a fish, and the only time I’ve ever seen rods break on fish were about 6 sages in one week of guiding (the peak of king season).

MemberDon’t get me wrong Sages are very nice casting rods, they are very light and such but they are so light that they sustain damage very easy and the graphite structure is such that if you scratch them at all the structure is compromised and thus they break on fish, which IMO a rod should never do.

Membersage rods cast great but there is one reason and one reason only I will never buy a sage rod (even with pro deals) I have seen more sages break on fish than any other make of rod.

Memberthink you have it bad, you can probably drive to a trout stream, or some bass water, or some freshwater that isn’t frozen, or drive anywhere at all

MemberIts actually pretty hard to find chrome chinook up here, usually between 12 and 24 hours per fish… The really really good days you can hook maybe 10 in a day but you have to sort through them to find one that you wanna eat… Sockeye on the other hand…
patrick mccormick
MemberIf it casts anything like any other orvis rod, I wouldn’t fish with it either
patrick mccormick
Memberthe second picture shows it… So theres no fishing for chrome salmon down there? That kinda sucks, I hate touching fish that far along if I can avoid it…
