Not sure if anyone has done this but doesn’t hurt to ask, especially with the wealth of knowledge on this site.

I have been trying to research and figure out this whole lake run browns thing here in the Great Lakes. I have a general idea of what I’m trying to do, but would really appreciate so insight if anyone has gone after them. I have tried asking around on a forum for the Great Lakes area, and got nothing back. People seemed to be pretty tight lipped about this subject. I know Wisconsin is supposed to be good and heard that the Muskegon in Michigan is good, but no real insight to tactics. I know up on Huron guys will wade for them in the surf. I know that in the lake I want to use bait fish patterns, but have no clue once they enter a river. I do know that they will tend to stop and hit the first gravel they come across. Any help would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

If I were going lake run brown fishing I’d start by assessing water conditions, if feasable sight fish then use hex nymphs and stonefly nymphs, then try general attractors like franks flies.

I’ve been fishing on the michigan side of lake michigan for a quite some time now, and i haven’t heard of any river that has fishable run of browns.

As mentioned before, most browns I know of that are caught in the GL are a bycatch of salmon and steelheaders.
