You don’t need this lens! Â Just talk to my neighbor in the satellite business. Â He contracts with Google Earth and multiple academic/research corporations and unfortunately a certain Asian country known for mega fishing. Â The algorithms he is working with can “LITERALLY” read the upper right registration sticker from your license plate. Â Whoa. Â In the future (sooner than you would believe) the general public will have the ability to query satellite imaging data for a fee.
And that includes photographing big game from space!  It’s already being done with insane resolution. 😀
I have the 9′ 6wt Scott S4 and someone will have to pry it from my cold dead hand to get it. Â Honestly, I fish the 6wt class more and more each year for medium sized rivers. Â I have casted the 9′ 4wt S4 and it is every bit as good as the 6wt yet lighter. Â The 6wt S4 is my go-to rod for streamer, warmwater and light weight saltwater fishing. Great rod if money is no option.
FYI/BTW, I have an 8’6″ 4wt Z-axis which, IMHO, is similar in fast-action to the 9′ S4. Â What I have found is that it tends to be a bit short for nymphing and a bit too fast for dry fly fishing. Â Ergo it tends to stay in the closet. Â
Just to throw a wrench into things . . . my new favorite 4wt rod is a 10′ 4wt from Orvis. Â It is the perfect length and weight (actual weight in hand, not line weight) for long days of nymphing and wet fly fishing. Â I believe the Europeans are way ahead of us on the longer rod game and over the past year I have come to believe in the benefits of longer lighter-line-weight rods. Â However, you mentioned smaller streams – the longer rods may not be a good match for your needs in this case.

As of three years ago there were only two experienced fly fishing guides on Grand Cayman island. Â The best was Captain Ronald Ebanks http://www.flyfishgrandcayman.com/. Â I fished with Ronald and had a good time but unfortunately the weather was poor on the days we fished. Â We did not even see bonefish ourselves but his camera was loaded with pictures of clients holding medium-to large-sized bonefish. Â Lots of jacks were caught. Â My wife and I are thinking about going back next year and I have noticed a few new guides on the internet but can’t speak of their skills. Â IMHO Ronald Ebanks knows the Cayman water better than anyone and he is a local and a damn good fly caster himself, highly recommended by me.
Ben Cochran and I have gone back and forth about the Lightroom vs Bridge issue for some time (LR for me, Bridge for him). Â I simply can’t understand why people love Bridge given it’s inherent catalog deficiencies. Â For me LR is one of the best file management programs out there. Â However, this debate will no doubt continue. Â
I have been using Lightroom 3 beta for some time now and must admit that the major upgrades are specifically targeted toward the importing functionality and cataloging.
Thanks guys.  The landscape and outdoor game is still a huge ball of stress, aagghh.  The gels and filters are definitely the  next step for me.  What a difference they make when you are dealing with that big sun and the myriad of light changes throughout the day.  Not to mention those dappled shadows which change faster than a woman’s mind, ha.
