Hope you don’t mind my butting in, but I’m interested in that lens too. I currently am shooting the Nikon AF 80-200 f/2.8D . I love the lens for most of the situations I use it, but I am wondering how much difference the VR and AF-s capabilities would make in the context of shooting tarpon in the air from a skiff.A buddy and I have been playing around with photography on our Keys trips over the years and it has grown to a point where it has become as much of a hobby as the fishing has. Next trip is scheduled for May for 8 days and I’m really considering putting that lens in the boat bag.
I’ve never owned a VR or IS capable lens. I suspect there would be some real benefits to be had from a faster focusing lens and a the VR capability in the context I am planning to use it, but how much I don’t know. What do all the pros think? Thanks.

The cheapest I’ve seen the lens is on B&H for about $1629.00 for the US version. Have you found it cheaper anywhere else?Keys bones are tough but the lessons you learn in Islamorada should serve you well in the Bahamas. A good 8 weight is generally a good choice for bones.
Bonefish Fly Patterns and Fly Fishing for Bonefish, both by Dick Brown, are very good.
Where are you going?
I’ve always liked what Roderick Haig-Brown wrote about fishing, “Perhaps fishing is, for me, only an excuse to be near rivers. If so, I’m glad I thought of it.” I like the places trout fishing takes me. I got into fly fishing as an extension of hunting and camping. It was something I could do during the hunting off season. Now I hardly hunt any more.

Your perceptions regarding bonefishing in the Bahamas pretty much mirror my own with one exception.I just noticed that the Park has implemented voluntary restrictions on a number of creeks…Slough was one of them.
