An escaped exotic pet seems plausible to me…I am amazed by the numbers of big cats people have as pets here in the south.
I usually go for two weeks each summer around mid July. Work forced me to postpone until the first two weeks of August this past summer. What normally should have been fantastic hopper fishing was pretty off. River closings, due to the heat wave, were also in effect. Late July and August is always a crap shoot, especially in low water years.
As far as driving goes, you might want to reconsider flying instead as Drifter suggested…especially if you want to maximize your fishing time. I do drive, but I haul a driftboat and take the dog. If I remember correctly where Jackson is, I would say you ought to make it into Montana late afternoon, early evening on your second day with two days of hard driving. To give you a frame of reference. We spent our first night about an hour east of St Louis in Illinois. We made it to Rapid City, SD the next day, and drove into Livingston about noon (with the time time change) on our third day. As far as advice on what to see…AVOID KANSAS AT ALL COSTS. Go through South Dakota…the Badlands are pretty cool.

Orvis is an apparel company. They sell gear, but what reallydrives their business is apparel. I think a lot of their stuff is over-engineered crap. Case in point. I went on a weeklong trip to the Bahamas last year. Two older guys were along on the same trip. They were completely outfitted in brand new Orvis gear. Here’s what happened.
Where do I start…one guy had a pauir of flats boots that rubbed such severe blisters on his ankles that he couldn’t wade the last few days of the trip. It was as if Orvis never even field-tested the shoes. One look at the design and you knew they were going to kill your feet. The other guy had a brand new Orvis reel that seized up and was useless. Later, the cork grip on his Orvis rod cracked in two making the thing vitually impossible to cast. Finally, the zipper on one of their fanny packs failed. It’s CRAP!
OK…just want to make sure we’re not talking about bragging rights at a cocktail conversation.
As a marketer, I think you have to interpret the data for what it is.

I suppose the answer depends on the perspective from which you ask the question.
