MemberNo, David, I don’t.

MemberI’m with you, Chad. A couple of days ago, after this thread started, I was talking with Zach about setting up a little (play) darkroom here. He responded skeptically. I had to explain to him that now it’s a hobby like any other – unnecessary but very enjoyable. I didn’t mention the nostalgia, but that’s part of it too. There’s just something to be said for working with an image on such a minute and particular and concrete level. You can’t duplicate that process or the closeness that comes with it in Photoshop. :-/
Or at least I can’t. 😉

MemberGreat to have you, Dan!

MemberWelcome, Brian!
lauren
MemberI second the casting lessons + letting her choose. It can be frustrating to learn to cast from a spouse. 😉
FWIW, I have a 5wt 9′ St. Croix Legend Ultra with the smaller grip, which fits my hand really well.
lauren
MemberHey Jason.
I’ve spent quite a bit of time in the darkroom, and I love to develop b+w film and manipulate and make my own b+w prints. Unfortunately, I don’t own an enlarger of my own and have moved away from the enlarger I had access to, so I haven’t developed much lately.
Zach and I shoot digital nearly exclusively for all but decorative shots, and we’ve had a real hard time finding a place to get our black and white film developed well and at a reasonable price.
Perhaps I should ask for an enlarger and other accoutrements for Christmas or birthday. 😉

MemberWill and Brian- One word: bleach. 🙂
Though Tide has no hand in the funding of my education, Emory’s nickname is Coca-Cola University. 😉
And, yes, those are the Cloudveil pants, and they held up very well through some serious trailblazing and hiking.
lauren
MemberI’ll second Zach’s thanks to those of you who made it. It was great to meet and fish with you!
I know that Neal has some more shots to share, too.
lauren
MemberHa! Thanks, Neal. 😉
Mike, those are some great shots!
And Travis, that picture of the boatload of us is cracking me up! ;D
And Mike and Travis – it was great to finally meet you two!

MemberHi Thiago!
lauren
MemberHey Kevin,
Personally, I don’t care if it is a different color from the guy’s version, so long as the color looks like something meant to be outdoorsy and not something meant to appeal to some misconception of the “feminine” fashion sense.
lauren
MemberAnother bit of advice from a writing prof:
Sounds like you’re on the right track, but, as tempting as it will be, don’t bite off more than you can thoroughly chew in the pages allotted to the assignment.
lauren
MemberMe too, for the record.

MemberYou guys crack me up! ;D
And I’m probably not the lady to ask about this, but, here are my 2¢.
Put a girl-y color (read pink, purple, etc.) on technical or terminal gear made for women, and you will never get my money. Cut it to fit women, PLEASE (as in waders and coats made for hips, a waist, and breasts), but by all means go ahead and make it in the same colors as the guys’ gear. I want to be seen on the river as someone who fishes who happens to be a woman; I don’t want my technical/terminal gear to scream that I’m a woman from 300 yards. This color preference mostly extends to just the technical stuff (as in, I don’t want my waders or rain coats, rods, reels, or lines colored to suit the “female taste,” whatever that means).
I’m a-okay with girl-y colors for shirts or ski hats, but I think they look good on men, too, of all persuasions. David Anderson, you’d likely look great in a pale yellow or pastel pink flats shirt! 😉 ;D

MemberHey, Erik.
Welcome! Good to have you!

MemberThis is such an interesting thread! It’s cool to get a glimpse of what you all are doing. There are some really great occupations represented here!
I am working on my PhD in literature at Emory University. My focus is on 17th and 18th century British texts. I spend most of my time reading and analyzing poetry (think Donne, Marvell, Milton, Dryden, Pope, Swift). As part of the PhD program at Emory, I also teach writing to first year students. It’s great fun and so gratifying to introduce students to college and have a hand in their rapid progress.
I spend my spare time on cooking and outdoor pursuits (hiking, fishing, photography).
lauren
MemberThere’s no deadline, Ben, though when you do know something relatively definitive, it would be better to let everyone know so we can make sure there’s room at the group campsite for everyone.

MemberMark –
I’m afraid to try to calculate how much it would cost to audit a course at Emory. -
