Check out Capt. Alec Griffin… he’s a friend of mine and was the manager of Uptown Angler in New Orleans.

Here’s a photo of a Clouser rod that just happened to be sitting on my dining room table.

I was flying back to Louisiana from Texas at the end of a business trip.  My buddy was picking  me up at the airport and then leaving directly for the Cajun Riviera (Grand Isle).  I had no hat to wear on the trip.  So, on the way to the airport in Houston I stopped at an Orvis Company Store to buy a cap.  I found a tan cap with Orvis written on the front in olive drab.  I quickly put the cap on the counter and grabbed my wallet.  The salesperson said; “That will be $28.95.”  The next thing I grabbed was my heart… I had to have a cap.

    What am I saying here?

I ALWAYS WEAR THAT DAMN HAT WHEN I GO FISHING!

Yep, I built my pirogue with my own two little hands.  Here’s a better picture.

    Jeff,

According to Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries the Rios are quite tasty… I haven’t tried them.

Hahaha.  I think this is a joke; I’m giving a seminar on that topic at the FFF meeting in Callaway Gardens, Georgia, this weekend.

Here’s a list of the show seminars:

Don’t you just love it when a Southerner places a post here.  Let’s make this interesting!

I’m going to Lake Concordia next weekend (in the heart of Cajun Country… Southeast Louisiana).

    For some of these…

A-N-D some of these on the fly!

A-N-D to answer your first question; “Yes, we do practice catch and release here!”  But, if they are big enough to fillet… we release them in a cast iron skillet!

I have a 14′ bateau (Jon Boat for the non-Louisiana folks) with 25hp Mercury hand till.

I recently purchased my wife a new digital camera.  She took this photo at Fall Creek Falls in Tennessee.  She call’s it “What fish?“.  I’m the cute guy on the left.  By the way all the guys in the photo are fly fishermen from Louisiana.  I guess that tells it all…

My 2 cents!   Don’t like waist packs… too hot in Louisiana for vests.  I use a Filson Field bag and love it!

    Hello all,

Grew up in New Orleans, spent the last 12 years practicing law in Baton Rouge – Geaux Tigers! – hung ’em up at the end of 2006. Now, as a recovering lawyer, I work part time in the fly shop in New Orleans and try to find other ways to make some change. Never married, no kids, awesome girlfriend with a busy schedule that allows for plenty fishing.

I chase redfish in the marsh about an hour from New Orleans when it’s not 100 degrees outside, and I handle the travel program for the fly shop which is how I manage to swing my destination fishing (this year to Jackson Hole and the Bahamas). Also drive to Arkansas or the GSMNP for trouts.

Been out of the country for most of the summer so it is good to be back and see how far Zach has taken the site. Cheers,

    Billy

Acadianfly,I love your boat. I saw your post on the southern paddler. Those guys are great and very helpful. Did you paint the sides or tint the epoxy? I also love you monkey’s fist up front. Did you tie it yourself? How do you like the way she paddles and handles? Di you put the grafite epoxy mix on the bottom? Sorry for all the questions. Have a great day!

    Okay… here we go!

    The sides are painted.
I tied the monkey fist knot myself.
She handles great… I will add outriggers for fishing the marsh.
I did put the graphite epoxy mix on the bottom.

    Oh, I loved the questions!
