MemberWhen I was up in Alaska with my buddy we were taking about our pre-fishing/guiding rituals. For him he has to wear his Hatch shirt, eat a pack of chocolate covered donuts, and listening to Kid Rock. I have to wear my Sage hat and dorado buff to the water. Be wearing a Patagonia sunshade, have my lucky Patagonia boxers on, and wear a wristband, along with blasting Rammstien. When I get to the water I put on an old beat up diving hat and change into my bonefish buff.
I was just curious what everyone’s little quirks and rituals are? I’m sure we got some good ones with the group we have here.

MemberI have to remember to put my flyrod and vest in the car, then I have to remember where I’m going and remember NOT to bring the blackberry.

MemberI was flying back to Louisiana from Texas at the end of a business trip. My buddy was picking me up at the airport and then leaving directly for the Cajun Riviera (Grand Isle). I had no hat to wear on the trip. So, on the way to the airport in Houston I stopped at an Orvis Company Store to buy a cap. I found a tan cap with Orvis written on the front in olive drab. I quickly put the cap on the counter and grabbed my wallet. The salesperson said; “That will be $28.95.” The next thing I grabbed was my heart… I had to have a cap.
What am I saying here?
I ALWAYS WEAR THAT DAMN HAT WHEN I GO FISHING!

MemberWhen we get to our spot, I always rig up my rod first and then put on my waders/boots…my husband does it exactly opposite.

MemberM,
I carry something with me all the time, but for some reason whenever I go fishing I double check my pocket, to make sure it’s with me.

MemberStarting tomorrow, at say 8pm, I going to stand on the dock and talk to the fish, but not just any fish. The Northern Pike. Our talk will be brief, I’ll ask them not to steal my streamers by chewing through the bite tippet and turning tail a running with my fly still lodged in its mouth. I’ll ask them to politely return my fly to the dock where I stand and spit it back out if they wish not to put up a fair fight.
This week alone I have lost 8 large streamers and 2 of the streamers that Neal tied up for me to test. My buckhair top waters are toast as well.

MemberAaron,
All I got to say is damn.
It reminded me of a story about my uncle, who was also an officer and actually got wounded when he had his gun discharge and the ricochet hit him. As I said early I wear a wristband, more of a metal braclet when I go fishing. The braclet has his name on it. He was killed on a charity bicycle ride for an organization called concerns of police survivors here in Indiana. A week before he was killed he told me how much he wanted me to teach him how to fly fishing, so that he could spend more time and go on trips with my dad, brother, and I. Every since that day he was killed I always wear the braclet, because to me I feel that everytime I go out I’m taking him fishing with me. It has become very lucky to me, and I will not fish if I do not have it on.
