MemberGreat images and great fish,
Very tempting for another trip there,
Where is the location?
FWIW,
I was looking at B&H today for, as would have it CIR_POL myself, compared to Australia, I though their prices were very good, especially the Hoya
(I guess you would already know you will need a circular polarizer not Linear for digital)
Regards,
GaryThis was about an hour fifteen from Queenstown. We started hiking from the Greenstone/Caples Track car park.
I just bought the Hoya from B&H.

MemberJohn, both of those lenses are high zoom macro lenses for focusing on objects that are inches away from your lens. Is that what you were looking for?

MemberI’m loving Aperture 3. Do yourself a favor and get some Nik software plug ins. Silver efex pro is incredible.

MemberYeah, thats what has been running through my head. One, I’m not excited about my shots being cropped–especially if they are fisheye. And two, wondering if I will
jay mcdaniel
MemberOkay that makes sense. Thanks so much, Will.

MemberZach, thanks for the input! The third shot was definitely put in black in white to cover up a crappy exposure. How ’bout these?

MemberIts hard to get the contrast I like without the resulting dark eye sockets. Maybe I should just get my subjects to wear sunglasses hah. But seriously, I’ll mess around with them a little bit to see what I can do.

MemberLightroom or Apple’s Aperture hands down. Great ways to catalogue and tinker with your photos. I’m pretty sure you can free trials of both so you can try before you decide to buy.

MemberI’m not a huge fan of HDR, but I like these well enough.
The last shot seemed really bright when compared to the middle 2 – the 1st shot has really nice lines working through it.
Shot a little (very little, much to my chagrin) bass fishin’ on Lake Amistad this weekend myself. Only actually saw one fish caught – the guys SWEAR that they caught a couple more when they were away from the houseboat in their kayaks, but I’m not so sure. 😛
heh
The best fisherman I saw all weekend was the Osprey – he had a nice fish. 🙂
Will post a link to a couple highlights later.
Kendal
Kendal, actually none of these are HDRs or tone mapped. They were shot in RAW and tinkered with in Aperture. I used a black and white plug in for Aperture to get the look I wanted for each shot. My dad and I went backwater fishing in Naples a year or two ago and saw both an osprey and bald eagle take ladyfish from the water. It was amazing to watch. Thanks for the feedback guys! Corey, I’m saving up to get a Sigma fisheye like yours. The shots you get with that thing are insane. Thanks again for the feedback.

MemberGreat post! Loved the story and the pics!

MemberYour first three shots are awesome. What lens where you using for that third shot?

MemberGreat story! Where were you guys hunting? I’m hoping to get in a stand this Christmas–not sure if it will happen though. I almost hit a buck in my car yesterday. Had a pretty large rack on it; I would guess 6-8 points. I missed it by a few feet going 55. That could have been interesting.
