    Wow, great looking flies Ian!

How about some recipes for these flies? Some might want to try to tie them too. I’ll try them.

Well this global warming has already hit some 5 years ago. We have had heat records almost every year. The real damage might be visiable only on the long run…

Thanks for the praise! Sharing the good things in life is what makes life so much better.

Sounds like fun Joel! I might offer my help for free for a few days if I’m in your heck of the woods.  ;D
My next trip to the US & Canada is probably next year.

    Good luck!

These Patagonia waders are expensive but they are definately worth it, both in performance & service from the company.

But that’s probably with all major wader companies (incl. Cabela & LL Bean).

    Congrats man!
Fishing is a great way to celebrate the house!

My house is almost built, just 5 more weeks. I’m doing a pre-celebration with my trip this weekend!

Our new house is about to be delivered next month. The whole ball game of getting it ready (I mean EVERYTHING: kitchen, bathroom, wooden floors etc.) is waiting for us! 😉

Good thing I planned a trip just before this time consuming thing called house

    Good luck to you guys!

The original Superfine rods has a mythical smell when I was young (early 1980’s). There were the best of the best. And expensive as hell due to the high Dutch Guilders<> US Dollar rate.

I still got my Tippet (7.5ft #3) and a Trout (8ft, #6 but I use it with a #5). These are the original bright hardware. The lighter rods are still my favourite. I love my Tippet to death!

The newer rods (HLS, TLS, etc.) never appealed to me. Don’t know but the actions never had any new feel about them and the cosmetics just aren’t up to the Sage level during the LL, SP era.
Haven’t seen the new Trout bum series yet. They look pretty okay on picture though.

    Zach,

First of all, I’ve never seen Bernard’s rods so I have no clue how nice his rods are. I’d love to cast one one day.

Bernard’s innovation comparing to Stradivarius is indeed interesting.
However I think it all comes down to experience in selecting the right bamboo culms (texture, size, density etc.), understanding the way bamboo fibers work, figuring out the tapers and using highly accurate tools and attention to details.

Well, I’ll listen to it later this week again more carefully.

Zach, just listened to the podcast.
To be honest, I was a bit disappointed…

The interview went pretty technical in a way that it became too much science rather than craft.

It’s obvious that Bernard approaches building bamboo in a different way than most, but what I wanted to know was how he came to the construction he uses and how he improved his rods. Did he examine, cast & fish other cane rods. Which ones did he like and used to his advantage. What makes his nodeless rods better in his view (casting/fishing rather than scientific way). I thought I was listening to rocket science rather than craftmanship, hard work and introduction to his rods

Maybe I have to listen again…

    Sounds good Zach!

Can you ask Bernard if we can see some pictures & details of his rods?
And while you’re on it maybe a couple of demo rods to boot…

Just recieved my copy of FLy Fisherman today.
Looks good Zach! I’ll have a good read this evening.

Isn’t it striking to see how the industries need to keep in the front row is delivered in the cover of magazines? This pretty little girl with all the foremost labels in view? Patagonia, Sage, Action Optics. Line is probably SA too.

    Zach,

It’s not a universal code yet but I really like Cacophony for super easy editting for sound files, converting from one format to the other. Heck even recording the interview.
