As we enter the 5th year of this war I would hope we could all resolve to bring our the magnificent men and women back so they can fish their home waters. I will see what I can send though.

Well I’m sure I could cast the rod better than I could play the violin. Have you seen any of the Sweetgrass

One thing I wonder about is with 2 companies is he building all the rods? Does he have a crew that helps him get things done? At 36 years of age how many rods has he built? Comparing what he does to a legendary musical instrument is a bit of stretch. It would make good ad copy though! The Stratavarius of flyrods make it sing on your trout stream today. Only 3K! Get yours today before all the japanese salarymen buy them up for their ultra special vacation!

Although I have avoided the allure of cane I have to say I would Love to have one. I just don’t know which one and I have never been anywhere you could cast cane rods. Nice audio edit on the violins.

The only reason Nikon needs to do a full frame model is to compete with Canon in the Pro and prestige market, they were the “Pros Choice” forever. These 35mm style cameras or what I consider “hand cameras”. I use a medium format style camera with a 22 megapixel digital back. I think you will see the cost of these backs drop over time and people looking for quality akin to medium and large format film will move up to these system.

I use a D2Xs sometime and its a cool camera for really active subjects, just like having a top of the line 35mm film camera but it just can’t compete with a medium format style setup when it comes to image quality. I would love to see some fly fishing shots on a Hasselblad digital camera outfit. The jump in quality is astounding.

Hey Zach as much interest as there is in rods and casting on the board I would love to hear from the Rajeff brothers and Jerry Siem of Sage and other rod manufacturers. I think George Anderson would be a good one too.

Harry was a great writer! He had a fair bit of misfortune in his life and I think it finally killed him. The Bright Country is a tough read. The Earth Is Enough and The Spine Of Time are my favorites. Harry worked for Southern Living for a while until they fired him and I think thats when the wheels kind of started coming off.

“…the old men fished for many reasons, I suppose, but angling gave them no greater reward than solitude… No other bounty they had known matched these moments of quiet during which they desperately tried to smuggle themselves, in spirit if not in body, back into the natural world, the place where they were most at ease, truly at home.”

It won’t be long before you will have to back your chair up to a wall to keep a Cougar from jumping you from behind and biting your neck while your sipping your Pinot Noir on your deck. The animals are taking their territory back. Watch Out!

Stouff you a Harry Middleton fan? I’ve read all his books that I could get my hands on. A few of his titles are sadly out of print.

They use to make a 6’10” 6 Heli-Ply weight that I tried out. It was pretty cool. Amazing how much line you can throw with such a short rod.

You could just save yourself a lot of grief and get a Mac! Its what Vista is trying to be anyway. It will probably be 6 months before the bugs are worked out of Vista. I use both platforms but if I had to pick one it would be the Mac for any imaging application except maybe printing. The only thing we use Windows for is our servers and our EFI Color RIP. Vista looks cool but you will probably have to do a bunch of upgrades or buy a new pc if you want all the cool features.

If you want to get into B&W look for a copy of Zone VI workshop by Fred Picker. I never understood exposure and development in B&W until I read that book and applied the techniques. If you want to get at the heart of photography as Fred Picker would say TRY IT! For most people its a little to much effort. Thats
