That is a cool paint job David.

What motor are you putting on it ?

    Thanks again Travis !
I want one – looks like a great alternative to a small aluminium boat and a good platform for a cod fishing boat.

Cool, thanks for all the pictures Travis – looks like your boats get a work-out !
The plastic stuff seems like a good idea for their toughness.

Chris, thanks for the Brooker link, I have looked a couple a few years back and you can’t argue with the price.
Really, a good aluminium boat with custom built decks (like Justin Duggans old boat) would be fine as well.

Zach, that’s a MUCH better use for a laundry basket than laundry !
    Long live the floordrobe. 🙂

    lol – looks like fun.

Hey, build quality was there and I know Scotto loves ‘em – but pretty unrefined when you compare it to the US boats. Dave’s new Maverick was just terrific.

The Mavericks look the business no question, but it’s been suggested to me that your line could easily blow off the flush mounted decks and that they’re not good in the rougher water ?

Just dreaming in that price range at this point – my budget is more float tube. lol

Yeah, spoke to Dave B about Hewes ect.
I want to get up there for a fish with him and have a look at his new boat – that’s the best way to check them out.

Curious, what was it you didn’t like about the 485 ?

That’s a cool little boat Chris, but maybe a bit small for what I’m after.
Then again, what am I after ? lol
Small lake boat that’s cheap to run or larger boat I can hit Hervey Bay in ???

An Aussie boat I like the look of, but not price of, is the Haines Signature 485SF because of all it’s configurations and epic fuel tank.

Thanks for the podcast Zach – very informative.
I like that guys attitude and his enthusiasm for the boats.

I now keep the highlight/shadow alerts on in LR and on camera.

This is proof that just like in the old days of B&W, printing your own photos will make you a better photographer..

Printing has made me far more aware of what the highlights are doing as they’re much harder to correct in post then the dark stuff.

in reply to: The Problem with Facebook #75997

FWIW, I think all this internet stuff is headed off the rails.

The reason IMHO, is big business is fighting to own the entire format or ‘vehicle’ that delivers the content, but makes no contribution to, and adds no value to the content itself.
As an example, because everyone can make and publish instant content the net is awash with crap videos, crap photos and generally shitty writing – you get what you pay for huh ?
The good stuff is much harder to find then it used to be when everything was print, but unfortunately, don’t make much money for those with any talent.
The good content has to compete with the rubbish for the advertising pennies..

The paid links and data mining has also made using the net a tedious mine field.

An example – I’m trying to see if there’s flight from Sydney to the regional town Gladstone so I type in ‘Sydney to Gladstone flights’ and only get page after page of paid link sights and booking sights, but the question is not answered.
Is the search function functioning anymore ?
Has Google taken a big dump in their own backyard ?

Also, at the moment, I’m making enquires about boats have contacted two dealers and two manufacturers directly through their websites and have not got a single reply.
Are they so busy chasing business across Facebook, twitter, youtube, blogs, instagram, ext ext that they no longer have time for email ?
Maybe I should just do things the old fashioned way a go in person ?

in reply to: Yellowstone Angler's new shootout: 8 weights #75979

    I like rod shoot-outs.
Maybe it’s hard to sort out bias or commercial interests, but, if nothing else, it starts the conversation.
We should be discussing fly rods no-stop.
Also, fly shops should IMHO try before you buy and have an idea about what they’re selling beyond margins.

    http://www.flylife.com.au/library/tackrev/49/FL49-%20Rod%20Rage.pdf

Here’s a six weight rod shoot-out I organised a few years ago with over 30 six weights and 100 testers.
I found it a very interesting exercise not so much for winners and losers, but seeing how casters of different skill levels judged things.

The Hog Islands do look a little more substantial..;)

What sorta money are they ?

I don’t think there’s any crocs in our two local lakes, but there’s some pretty chunky cod.

By all accounts an excellent printer.

I just binned my awesome, but old Canon IPF5000 and spent a lot of time shopping around for a replacement.
In the end I’ve got the Epson 3880 (also because of a rebate), but I’m still tempted to get the Canon.

FWIW, the quality of these things cost money in six figures only ten – twelve years ago..
Good times we livi in ! 🙂

in reply to: Adobe CC Subscription #75938

I’m VERY happy with the subscription.

I was upgrading (from PS1) every 18 months to 2 years, but after switching from Canon to Nikon and then getting an additional camera and new computer, it was clear that the upgrades were never going to be as convenient as downloading.
At first the price seemed a bit much – though really about the same as a disc upgrade – but with the sale it was a bargain and MUCH easier then buying/installing a disc upgrade.

IMHO, this is a fair deal for both Adobe and the photographer.

I think Photoshop is an amazing bit of soft wear, a revolution and worth a bit of spend.

in reply to: Frustration with my eyes. #75872

Buzz, just ordered the Orvis magnifier and their new +4 magnifier glasses that focus closer – thanks for the suggestion.

Mike, I’ve avoided the prescription polaroids because I have 3 different pairs for different water.
Also, would I have the same problem with the focus distance with them that I have with my normal reading glasses ?
With our health insurance I can get a pair of glasses made reasonably cheap so I might ask the opto the question.

Brian, things around the neck are a huge problem because I normally have a whopping great camera there..
I recently tried a small chest pack instead of the vest for example, and found the whole set-up a complete cluster bonk. lol
That’s why the flip down magnifier looks good to me – it’s out of the way when not in use.
The whole tackle/camera situation might be the subject of my next whinge post !

    Thanks for all the suggestions.

    in reply to: 120-300 2.8 Siggy #75849

Mike, the 300 2.8 Canon is seriously sharp – IMHO only the 200 1.8 and the 135 L would best it and not by much. 😉
I used to borrow one from CPS when I had to shoot a band with an asshole crowd.

    Maybe a little heavy for a macro…lol
