MemberThe canon Rebate program flooded the market with these printers for sale “New in Box – the UPC” at a steal of a price. I picked one up last week and have spent my holiday season working on home printing. I’m literally blown away by the IQ this thing produces. I’ve also got alot to learn about printing now… If your considering a low cost printer that will produce some extremely high quality images up to 13X19, I feel comfortable recommending the Canon Pro 100. This is my new favorite photography purchase.

David AndersonMemberBy all accounts an excellent printer.
I just binned my awesome, but old Canon IPF5000 and spent a lot of time shopping around for a replacement.
In the end I’ve got the Epson 3880 (also because of a rebate), but I’m still tempted to get the Canon.FWIW, the quality of these things cost money in six figures only ten – twelve years ago..
Good times we livi in ! 🙂www.dsaphoto.com
A picture is thousand words that takes less than a second while a thousand words is a picture that takes a month.

Good times we livi in! ”Indeed! I’ve been learning quite a bit about the printing process the last few weeks. Learning that stuff that doesn’t stand out on the screen sure does in print. Blown highlights, clipped blacks, and little details that need to be Photoshopped out, like sticks in a waterfall. I now keep the highlight/shadow alerts on in LR and on camera.
Also, it isn’t best to use wireless to print… Had two 8.5X 11’s get scrapped due to com loss. Ouch! Glad it wasn’t a 13X19. Overall I’m still amazed that for $120 plus some paper I can print images like what I’m printing.I’ve also learned to stay away from the big office stores for paper. Office depot has Canon glossy II 20 sheet for $18.99. Amazon has the same paper for $4.99!! Ink isn’t bad either. Besides, ink is what keeps printer companies making advancements in the tech, and lowering the cost of ownership. I’m pleased as punch with this purchase.

This is proof that just like in the old days of B&W, printing your own photos will make you a better photographer..
Printing has made me far more aware of what the highlights are doing as they’re much harder to correct in post then the dark stuff.

MemberYep. Looks good on the monitor doesn’t = looks good in print. And when your looking at the cost of a 13X19 you really start to look hard at every detail before pushing the print button. So much to learn so little time…
Been playing with all the different Canon Papers. Big time fun!

Tim AngeliMemberThis is great to hear, Mike. I have always thought of home printing as being cost prohibitive, for me at least, but it sounds like it is becoming very affordable. I’ll be keeping an eye out for a deal on a printer like this. Thanks for the heads up.

MemberTim I thought the same thing until the canon rebate lowered the printer to the $100 range. I also realized that not having a printer is print prohibitive because I wasn’t ever sending anything to the lab. I don’t know which is cheaper, but I really like having control over the print and the media it’s on.
