Hi Cameron, I can’t help you much with Nikon stuff because I haven’t had one for over 10 years, but I did have a try of the 50 1.4 on a D200 not so long ago and I was impressed.
The only negative was the lens had a lot of CA’s, but if you’re shooting above 1.8 or f2 it wouldn’t be a problem.
It was very sharp.
A 50 is great to have around for low light and doing narrow depth of field and on your crop frame camera they make a great portrait lens.
Everyone should have one.

Those bats give me the creeps.
I came across thousands of them one day while fishing on the Turon river about 3 hours west of Sydney and ended up walking way around them for the mess they made.
There’s also zillions of them in Sydney and at night they hover around the harbor bridge and centerpoint tower.
In the day they camp in the botanic gardens.
Again, very creepy !

I hear that they’re going to be around $8000.oo US retail and will cost a bit less at the discount stores like B&H.
IMHO, that’s a bit rich given the Canon DsIII is now around $6700.oo and the 5DII is around $3000.oo (I think :-?).
Nikon needed a high rez camera, but they’re a little late to market to be charging premium rates.
They’re not stupid though, I bet a lot of long term Nikon users will grab one anyway so they can shoot at that rez without changing systems.
No doubt some of them are tired of us Canon guys making fun of their lack or grunt as well.. 😉

Thanks Mark, I am as ever looking for the perfect way to carry camera gear with my fishing gear in a safe manner.
I haven’t seen any of the range even in pictures so was hoping that they might get some images up to at least give a starting point for investigation.

35mm DSLR’s both DX and full frame, took off past film in the 10-13 MP range and cameras like the DsIII (21 mp’s) are so far ahead of film for resolving power that they can even match or beat medium format film.
Where you can see this the most is at high ISO’s – film was really only good up to 100 if you needed detail, but digital now does good detail at almost any ISO.

Thanks David, I already have a Quiet taper, and I love it on my SLT #2, and it’s very good on the ZXL, I just want to try the Rio as well.
I agree the ZXL is like an LL with a bit extra grunt – they are IMHO the best light rods Sage have ever made.
I’ve had the 8’6 #3 for a while, but I was a bit cut up they didn’t do a 2 when the new model was released.I’m just getting familiar with the 2 over grass and taking it out for it’s first run on the small streams this week – hopefully I’ll have a good review when I get back.
The 3 ZXL is magic with the Rio DT so I have a feeling it’s going to sing on the 2.

There’s a guy here in Sydney (David Kay) who was the king **** dude when it came to large format cameras and quality B&W prints – his stuff always made me want to quit when I compared it to the hack magazine work I was shooting in 35mm tranny.
He also worked at a camera store and was one of the few people around who really knew what he was selling.No he’s into medium format digital and large format printers and his prints are better then ever – the stuff he does with some of the very hi rez backs is again breaking my heart when I compare it to the best I get from work.
I think he proves that it’s the passion and commitment to quality that make photos great more then the camera or medium.

I’ve seen these things in action on music videos a bit lately and they’re very impressive and getting better and better.
This new model is getting interesting, though the money is still high for shooting stills and there’s better around for less, they will have a role for shoots where the client wants video and photos.
The cost of shooting like that is of course much higher then a photo shoot and requires huge computer power, but if you’re the guy getting the job I guess that wouldn’t matter.
Very interesting times we live in !

Not wrong about the price of film gear.
The cameras cost next to nothing for top of the line gear and there’s a stack of it around.
I get a hankering to get a 10’x8′ and shoot landscapes every time I see one going cheap..
