It sure looks like it… I hadnt noticed it… I suppose this is a no no? This fish was a real fighter. It took very long to bring it in, and still fiesty on the edge of the river, and powerfull…. It just wouldnt come into shallow water… . The biggest risk to the gills is weighing it…
I feel high visibility is best for me with old eyes, long leaders make up for this, but im fishing deep. the longer the space between the line, and the fly the more natural it will be, on top or the bottom.
this needs a continuing smaller tippet….Im using 10-11 foot leaders now, which is not long, with terminal tackle being held with 3x first fly, and 4x second fly, forfirst off id like to say my experience is with trout.. that being said you may not need the clear ended line, but it is a good idea if you can find it..

ill recreate thursdays scenario that prompted this question… its a spring creek, the missouri, below a dam, big river. aprox 3500 cuftsec.. water.tennp.about 34-35 degrees.. in the still water or slack water if you call it there are number 22 black midges.. and thats about it.. water is crystal clear, sky is bright grey mid day.. when i found the right fly for me, it was flourencent orange number 8 maribou black conehead streamer which changed to olive over yellow streamer when the light dropped from the sun going over the canyon walls.. the first two fish i cought were 4 1/4 pounds by scale then about three and three and a half..20-23.1/2″……. eight bites total, four fish landed.. i cought all the fish stripping very slow in the riffles.with.sink.tip…. where i useally do well in the seam above a creek i could not catch anything.. probably mostly due to the fact that i started in.the.seann. and didnt use the right color for that time of day.at.first….. and maybe should have put black midge below the streanner.. fish almost never rise in this part of the river below the dam for some reason but i like big fish, and i would rather catch a four pound rainbow below surface than a two pound one with dry…. next question,, how do you like to fish the seam as you seem to be agreeing that it is very productive?.. dave………sorry.nny.nn.and.space.bar.is.giving.nne.fits. >:(……
i love the reviews.. i knew absolutly nothing about the different companys and rod types last year when i restarted mucho time fly fishing.. my doctor put on on high blood pressure meds and i lost 40 pounds and i started hunting and fishing again big time… (i moved to montana to trap coyotes for a living and lived in a tent summers working for the railroad)… i joined another forum about a year ago and asked some questions and bought a series of sage ds and ds2 rods.. they served me well and i will use them for friends and relatives who need a rod when we load up the boat with my family and thier friends…. i bought a 5wt b2x this winter becouse the local dealer and his wife both use them on the missouri.. i was disapointed with the rod when i practiced around the yard… i started studying how to cast this winter and got a little better.. since i bought a rod from the dealer hes been giving an occasional free lesson.. the last thing he did he put a big rubber band around my wrist and pole end.. whammo– unbelivable– my line stared casting dowward like its supposed to, and other good things… i can all of a sudden take an orvis 4 wt silver label 8 foot, and that afternoon was casting 40-45 feet into a 20 mph wind .. thats 10 feet further than i could cast in the calm with that rod and line.. it didnt take any effort, just timing and proper hold and etc…. so your right the rod doesnt matter anywhere near as much as casting abillity.. by the way the b2x comes alive on the water while fishing, its not much of a yard rod where distance counts, but working the water for fish, and playing fish, its nice. my backcast sucked so bad i couldnt get any power out of the b2x, and im improving that, so its working out nicely.. i have to learn how to cast each rod… .. i then bought a sage 6wt z axis after reading andersons article,, its just what i wanted.. a power house for bad days where winds can hit 35 mph and more on the misourri… it seems to lack some with a fish on tho a little stiff…
