    Phil’s hat is modest.

Thanks on the hat props… the best thing about wearing it (besides it ability to provide shade) is the comments you get from others on the water.

I’m not a weight calculator by trade but I think you can see two pounds pudging out around your fingers.

some people like to talk about fat fish having “shoulders” but I think that ones got arms too.

I didn’t think that fish was five…. thats why I took the under and parlayed my tip into a bigger one so to speak.

That would be girth squared times length divide by 800.  So for a 21″ fish with a 10″ girth the formula would be; (10 x 10)21 / 800 or 2.63 lbs.

I had a great weight calculator at one time, but I can’t find it now.

Is there a formula like that for smallmouth? Seems like it would be different than for trout. I didn’t even actually weigh this one and I know people regularly catch much bigger ones than this. From the butt of the rod to the top of the cork is about 11″. Anyway, just curious if I could calculate weight in the future based on measurements (roughly).

For bass (works ok for trout):

    log(weight, in grams) = -4.83 + 1.923 x log(total length, in mm) + 1.157 x log(girth, in mm)

    log(weight, in grams) = -4.83 + 1.923 x log(total length, in mm) + 1.157 x log(girth, in mm)

    Not complicated enough.  Try this:
