MemberI hiked into a mountain lake this Saturday with a buddy and his dad. We caught around 200 brookies from about 6-10 inches. The report on this lake from game and fish says that it needs some fish taken out of it because of all of the competition. So we kept about 50 of the little guys. We ate about 20 of them right next to the lake and carried the rest out. They ate them for dinner that night. I didn’t take any fish pictures although I do have a picture of the shredded fly I used all day. It seemed to work for the “dinks”.

MemberLando,
Look at the top of this ad. No carp in Wyo. Now quit catching fish in Colorado and saying that they are close to your house.

MemberI’m sorry I should have paid closer attention. I just thought the only fish you could catch are white fish and suckers.
By the way tell Skyler to get a hair cut.

MemberWhen I first saw the picture I couldn’t figure out why you had a fly stuck in your lip, then I realized it was a fish. You and that sucker could be twins.
By the way the water is on the way down and fishing has picked back up again. I foul hooked the biggest fish I have ever hooked in the river. It made two jumps, I crapped my pants, and it was gone. Now I know where it is, next time hopefully it will be in the mouth and I will have a picture to share.
Headed to Poke country next week. Unfortunately for a family reunion, so I won’t be going through you neck of the woods.
Thanks for the kiss. 😀

MemberOne thing that I would try is to drop an emerger off of the dry. It will be hard to see the take on the emerger, but you can use the dry as an indicator. If it moves or goes down set the hook.

MemberCheck out this link for the Madison. Don’t fish the Madison much but when I do these guys have been pretty reliable. Looks like most of the fishing is up by the lakes.

MemberIn my earlier post about my fish’s weight is was trying to be a little sarcastic. (Very hard to do over the computer) Overplaying my tendency to say fish are smaller than they are. My real estimate of my fish has always been right around 7-7 ½ lbs. Making the fish discussed in the original post smaller than that, but still a nice fish.
Once again good job. Looks like you have “hooked” your son.

MemberAs of now I don’t think the Big Hole is going to produce very well, they are getting a lot of run off. The Beaverhead would be a good option. The entire river is now open. This is good because you will probably want to stay on the upper stretches. The more water that comes in the dirtier it will get.
Another option would be the Missouri.
Pretty much everything else is blown out.

MemberTodd… Those are some nice fat healthy looking browns. Good job, and congradulations to your son. But I think your overboard on the weight.
I always figured this fish at about 5-6 lbs. maybe it is more like 12.

MemberI’m with Lando on this, those fish must have quite the food source.
Every 20 1/2″ trout I have ever seen has been around 3 lbs. maybe pushing 4 lbs.Hope Mike shows up with the pictures, so we can all see these footballs. 😉

MemberNO FISH…. Come on Joel
I went out Saturday (also sunny and hot) and caught at least 20. 😛 Second cast hooked into a PIG, lost it. Went on to catch many average browns. Caught a small (16″) rainbow with a scar on its back twice. Not a bad day, but never got another chance with a big one. Also managed two suckers. :-[
Guess I should mention that I got on the water about 5:30 a.m. and took off before it got HOT.

MemberHere is something to wet your whistle. Just a little brookie about 17″, only the second I have ever caught here.

MemberYour planning on staying at the house, right?
JD is welcome to stay too, if he wants.
clint stevenson
MemberAwesome…. Are you still on for the 27th-29th?
I will try to get the 28th off. With the HOT weather (highs in the mid to upper 80’s) I don’t know what is going to happen with the water and fish. We should get a lot of runoff. Then it is supposed to cool down a little by the middle of next week. Hopefully it will be in good shape by the time you get here. Luckily no matter what I have a plan B. A float tube and a big stick (7-8 weight) might not be a bad idea for plan B.Have you talked to Jesse, is he going to be around?
Are you bringing the kids? They are more than welcome.
My parents will be here Memorial Day weekend. My Dad and I should get out some so I should have a good report for you, and be able to tell you what to do before I can get out of school on Tuesday.

MemberNice job Lando… Harassing the disabled. 😉

MemberLando’s right… We both became school teachers, because we love kids so much. Oh yeah, and it gives us a lot of opportunity to fish.
When we were going to college together Lando and I would work until 2:00 a.m., go musky fishing at 4:00 a.m., then go to school, and then goto work again that night. Not sure when we slept, but fishing was much more important than sleep.

MemberNet on top of a spinner box. One of her favorite things to do when fishing gets boring is to dig in the mud with the net, so it always makes the trip when she comes.
clint stevenson
MemberLando, when do you get out of school?
You may just be able to wait until then and use your personal day on something else fishy. The fishing is okay now, but until we get a good push of water the big boys (& girls) will be hard to find. We had a couple of warm days and the water came up slightly. But it is back down as it cooled off, and is supposed to stay that way, at least as far as the forecast goes.
I will keep you on my speed dial regaurdless.
If you want to come up now there are plenty of these around…
