Good idea for a thread, Lando. But it is really hard to choose just one.

The first fish that popped into my head was caught last spring. I was fishing a soft hackle under a bobber (indicator?). When I set the hook I thought it was a rock. Having had this happen to me before in this spot, I decided to “play” the rock for awhile. Luckily my I was right and that rock eventually began to move. It ran upstream about 15 yards through some fast water and I gave line and followed him. Then it ran back down stream. It continued to run back and forth though this fast water about 7-10 times. then it found an eddy where it just sat and swam circles with the varying current. About 10 minutes later I was able to land it. Turned out to be a rainbow that was 29″ long. Unfortunately I was fishing alone and don’t like to take pictures of fish laying on the rocks, so I didn’t have a camera. There was a guy fishing near me, but his camera was in the truck, because it was a rainy day.

My most memorable days on the drink were with Lando. One included fishing a riffle until we were tired of catching fish, so we helped some old people stick some nice fish. Another included my fishing a small 10 square foot trough, and catching fish on every cast for a few hours. These fish were just gorging themselves we even caught a few that were so full that they were puking on us. If Lando hasn’t posted a pic of that on this board maybe he still has it.

Come on Lando, you know about my love for “rocky mountain bone.”

Like I said, after this weekend, they will be my main pursuit. Now if I lived in the land of trout (Colorado) I would probably be stuck chasing trout all the time. However, you have to fish for what is availible to you and that is the mighty whitie where I live.

    Thanks dude…

But I think your a little high on the weight. There is nothing inside of the fish that I have been catching. They are just like big balloons.

Unfortunately the those ponds close this weekend. So it is back to whities for me.

    Neal

Lando can attest to the fact that I am pretty good at estimating my measurement. Then all of my rods get marked with fingernail polish at the 20″ mark, and my 8 wt. at both 20″ and 30″ mark (never reached 30 yet). Since I have been fishing these ponds (public I might add) I have begun carrying a flexible (seamstress) tape to get acurrate length and girth measurement.

That reminds me. I lost my formula for calulating fish weight. Does anyone have one for trout?

    Not sure on the weight Lando. 1 bow was 27″ with a 15″ girth, and a brown 26 with a 14 1/2″.

By the way nice pic of Sky, Steve’s nose, and a nice rainbow.

    Lando,

Little something I learned about stillwater fishing the other day, thought I would share it with you.

I was sitting at home thinking about the next days fishing trip and watching the news and the weather man in talking about the “southerly flow changing to a northerly flow tomorrow.” So I show up at the drink after school and the old-timer that has been fishing all day has caught a fish and lost one. He tells me that he is getting tired of casting into the southern wind and packs up and goes home. About a half an hour later the wind stops and is calm for about an hour. Then the wind starts to come from the north. About five minutes after the wind changes I get my first strike on a slow twitched beaver leach. Next cast land a good brown. Then on for the next two and a half hours until dark I caught six more really good fish (you know what I’m talking about). Not to mention losing several, two that straightened my hook.

I don’t know if it was the wind direction change or a change in the barometer but whatever happened it made it the best day I’ve ever had on those ponds. My feeling is that it was because of the wind change. The food that had stacked up on the north end of the pond all day was being blown back across the pond and started a feeding frenzy. All I know is in the future when I hear the weather man say the flow will change I will try to be at the pond the next day.

Let me just say that I am very disappointed. I can not believe that it took you that long to try a streamer.

Adam, you guessed it, I grew up in Wyoming. Transplanted to Montana, but of course all of the big fish are still in Colorado.

Joel you’ll have to let me know when things die down for you, so we can go fishing.

By the way Lando… Thanks for posting that last picture, now everyone knows our secret spot.

Can’t tell you exactly where in Colorado you would go to catch a fish like this. It doesn’t really matter though…. all of the fish in Colorado look like this

…. and a try at a photo posting

Bill is just one of the names that Lando has for me. But there is a good story behind most of them.

That was a nice fish… Colorado has all the big ones. Don’t let anyone tell you any different.

The real story is that I am part retarded and blew the line up inside of the reel on the mooching rod that we were using in the ocean. While the pissed off guide was trying to fix my massive screw up. I decided to try a fly rod in the ocean. Ended up getting that king. The reel on the rod had absolutely no drag, the line would just free spool out. Nearly burnt a hole in the palm of my hand, but well worth it.

And Lando… you can keep your avatar I look pretty cute in it. ;D
