chris zandoMemberZack,
I am very interested in three new products:
1) Sage TCX
2) New Sharkskin GPX, is it the same design as the Mastery GPX (taper length, oversized, etc)? For example does the 5 weight weigh 150 grains and is 38 feet long
3) By far I am the most interested in the expanded MX line from Winston (I love green) specifically a new 9′ 4 weight BIIMX and 9 1.2 foot 6 weight.
chris zandoMemberCheck out a website called insidetrip.com that gives useful ratings on individual flights and tips on how to ease the pain.
Just remember that cheap airfare is like going to Sam’s Club……..it ain’t going to be pretty but get you through.
chris zandoMemberZach,
Check out a site called Yapta.com. They will track fares for you and let you know when prices change. Also they can help you get refunds from airlines if the prices dropped (bet you didn’t know that).

chris zandoMemberI have been going out West for the past 4 years and have fished extensively in the Yellowstone area including the Snake, South Fork, Madison, Yellowstone, Various, Spring Creeks, Slough, etc. The experience of the West was life changing for me and I often dream of the crisp mornings. I have yet to fish the Missouri but have heard that is the “place”. I think the Henry’s Fork in its day may have been my dream stream.
However, from a pure fishing standpoint the Delaware system in NY that I call home have larger and much tougher wild fish!

chris zandoMemberI have heard that SA is coming out with GPX and Original Trout Taper versions of the Sharkskin this Summer. Anyone else here that?
chris zandoMemberZack,
I would like to save the fortune I spend on lines and have flyshops have more “demo” lines in more styles and weight. Usually shops have a 5 and an 8 in some old line that nobody knows the brand of. Also, why do different line tapers change the feel of a rod so dramatically.

chris zandoMemberMy sense is that when people say overlining makes a rod faster they really mean it is loading a stiff rod deeper and therefore creating more “power”. I have found this with really stiff rods.
chris zandoMemberTim,
As far as the 250 grain line goes on a 6 weight, the Rio Grand that I fish on it has a head weight at 40 ft of 230 grains and I can routinely carry much more line than that. So I thinking 250 grains would be OK. Make sense?

chris zandoMemberThanks for all of the responses, the rod is an XP 9′ 6 weight that seems like I could cast a cow on the other end it is so stiff so I am leaning toward the 250 grain!
chris zandoMemberI posted my thoughts in the SOmerset Show post but I like dthe Helios a lot. I only cast the 5 and 6 weight tip flex rods and was impressed. However, I didn’t think they were better than the new Winson BIIMX or the Z Axis. SO Orvis has a very competitive rod with the big boys but the rods felt a little mechanical for me. A great step forward but not sure the hype is justified.
chris zandoMemberI am leaning toward the BIIMX as I fish mostly on the Delaware system where there is big water and wind. However, I think those two rods would compliment each other very well………….
chris zandoMemberAnybody use this line on a 9′ 5 weight Z Axis? I am currently using a GPX on that rod but have not feltit is a perfect match.
chris zandoMemberI live in NJ and also discovered this company while in Jackson and can attest to the fact that there stuff rocks!
chris zandoMemberMy name is Chris Zando and I am 35 years old and have lived in New Jersey for the past 10 years. I grew up in a small town in Upstate New York fishing the Adirondacks and Lake Ontario. I work for an internet travelcompany company
chris zandoMemberIt would be cool if Simms offered the zipper option in the lower-end G3 or the Guides. The G4 are certainly great waders but not sure I want all of the pockets and gadgets or the high price tag.
chris zandoMemberI also have the 590 Z and really like it, I am fishing the Rio Selective Trout line on it and it is sweet as well as the Wulff Taper. I don’t find these rods that fast at all but really smooth with sort of sneaky power! I found that this rod did not like long-belly lines at all and slow the rod down too much.
chris zandoMemberI think this is a great strategic move by Winston. I like the BIIX’s but I think they do not have the gas of some other rods out there like the Z Axis particularly in the 6 weight on up. I have the BIIX 6 and it is super smooth but is not a great distance or streamer rod. So now it sems like Winston may have slow, medium and fast rod actions in the BIIX series.
chris zandoMemberSo in your opinion are the GLX Classic rods still on par with the newest rods like the Z Axis? I do know that the GLX’s are plain looking but who cares if they cast well.
chris zandoMemberTo clarify this rod will be for smaller spring creeks like Depuy’s in Paradise valley MY but their is wind that kicks up out West even on smaller waters.
