I received my new Sage Z-Axis 9′ 5-weight in the mail a few days ago and just got around to casting it today (I know, it should be a crime to wait a few days to cast a new rod).

    Hi Tim,
    I couldn’t agree more, the 9′ #5 is awesome !

What line(s) do you like on yours ?

A picture is thousand words that takes less than a second while a thousand words is a picture that takes a month.

    David,

I use a #5 Rio Grand on it, which is the line I found to work best for me.

The Z-Axis is a nice rod but I feel that the xp is a smoother rod. I think sage has a little ways to go to perfect the z-axis.

I also have the 590 Z and really like it, I am fishing the Rio Selective Trout line on it and it is sweet as well as the Wulff Taper. I don’t find these rods that fast at all but really smooth with sort of sneaky power! I found that this rod did not like long-belly lines at all and slow the rod down too much.

I received my 6 wt z axis from sage a couple days ago, and its mass and deflection are the same as the rod I sent in.. I couldnt be happier…  Most of the z axis i look at are 1/2 weight over in defelction (grams/inches deflection).. The 6 wt I orrigianlly bought was  right on 6 weight.
The  7 wt  9 1/2 foot z axis is an eight weight in my book..  Im not sure if im going to sell it or use it for salmon/steelhead..  I never get to those (salmon steelhead) areas tho … dave

I find this interesting since I like to build my own rods.
