I just purchased, and used, my new Sharksin for my 9wt yesterday.

Watch your guides. We’ve had two guys in the last week come in with burnt up guides.

    Nick –

I know the 3M guys are testing that pretty thoroughly.

I’d been wondering about that myself. But is it the line burning the guides or maybe the dirt I’ve heard this line can hold in its textured surface? I’ve not used it myself though I know a few who like it. I’ve not heard them speak ill of it as yet. :-/ :-/

I’ve been using the Heron Blue Freshwater Sharkskin line for about a year now.

Agree with Zach on idea that it’s hard to see how a (very soft) PVC line could cause wear to (very hard) guides.

I’d have to see this to believe it.

I just messed around with the new Magnum taper the other day when the SA rep brought it to the shop. Its good, but I still can’t stand the noise. I myself can’t see the line burning up the guides. I know that the line will tear up your hand if you don’t tape it up for streamer fishing. Seen that plenty of times.

I originally hated the noise but I was casting in the front yard.

    It’s not really possible.

I’ve had to replace a tip top guide twice on a 7 and 9 wt using regular lines. Now all my shooting head rods are all ceramic guides (no guide wear at all ;)).

Now all my shooting head rods are all ceramic guides (no guide wear at all ;)).  My SLT 5wt guides are starting to show bad wear using standard FL lines. If Sharkskin holds more dirt for some reason then it’ll erode the guides worse.

Streamer fishing usually does put the line in the exact same place on each retrieve. The tip tip takes the brunt of the punishment.

All I hear is that you get to fish waaaaaaay too much! ;D

I have heard that SA is coming out with GPX and Original Trout Taper versions of the Sharkskin this Summer. Anyone else here that?
