MemberGary, that’s good stuff and Zach tells me you’re without a doubt an authority on this stuff.
What do you know about redfish (red drum)? Sometimes the fish have dark crimson backs with white bellies and other times it’s more like a very washed out khaki. Like many freshwater predators they have a very mixed diet of baitfish and crustaceans. I’ve always thought the level of red on them could be directly related to the amount of crustaceans in their diet but have never gotten an answer much above local, backwoods lore.
Just something I’ve always wondered.

MemberHmmm,

Memberyou don’t need a book and DVD to catch the biggest trout of your life.

MemberI was actually looking some of those over the other day but not seriously considering buying and the model numbers are lost in my head.
I’ve dug the Leica stuff for a long time but didn’t want to pay what they ask for a DSLR. As far as the point and shoots go the ones I handled the other day were by all accounts great. That said Panasonic makes a few models that are basically the same, including the Leica lenses, they are missing a few features here and there but for a few hundred less so you might be interested in checking that out; they were probably equally as nice but without the Leica bling on the side.
Also sales dude was talking up how Leica packages copies of Photoshop Elements with their cameras instead of the cheap-o stuff you usually get. That’s pretty cool, but you’re paying for it somewhere and it might be unnecessary if you’ve already got editing software.

MemberWell Charlie and crew have owned and operated their lodge since the 1950’s
Carter Simcoe
MemberWhat do you base your assertion that the American companies were there first on? It’s my understanding that native guide Charlie Smith (after whom Bob Nauheim named the Crazy Charlie fly) pioneered that fishery into what it is today. I don’t doubt that there are probablly more American owned operations down there now but by all accounts I’ve ever heard Charlie is the OG and is still running a tight ship with the help of his offspring to this date.

MemberYou just rarely need any kind of sinking line for inshore stuff unless its in the surf where they can be nice, I’ve always used a sink tip for ‘poons of the jetties too.
Carter Simcoe
Memberwhere you going, Mike?

MemberI’d try again tomorrow afternoon with the ISO somewhere closer to 100 or 200 and would possibly try focusing manually if you knew ahead of time that were likely to be cropping a lot.
Carter Simcoe
MemberWill do.

At least he admits he brought that on himself.

MemberSo far I’m digging it.

MemberThanks Richard, that’s exactly the kind of feedback I’m looking for. I have noticed that to a degree but I hasn’t been anything that wasn’t easily fixed with the highlight recovery and some fiddling with the highlight end of the tone curve. I’d give you some before and after but I’m on the work computer. I’m going to try to shoot some sunset pics this evening if I can, I don’t think I’ve run anything like that through it yet. I’m definitely going to download a trial of RAW Developer too, looks promising.
Out of curiosity do you have any idea what version of Bibble you had on your trial?
Carter Simcoe
MemberNo, I couldn’t find a trial version for download on that one (maybe I’m wrong about that?).

MemberMy macbook will run Aperture fine, more or less.
Carter Simcoe
MemberThat’s a very good point.
Carter Simcoe
MemberThat conversion kit is only for the TiCrX rods and it’s for overhead, not traditional spey, casting.
Carter Simcoe
Memberhmm, thanks for the heads-up.
