MemberConnor. That’s a neat shot. That’s a beatiful location for watching sunsets and moonrises. We were getting off the river late one evening there at Buffalo City. The full moon was rising up over the bluffs, an owl hooting nearby and just then the train came through with the sound of the horn was echoing off the bluffs. Pretty cool. The parking lot there is also an awesome place to star gaze in the summer since you are basically in a black hole.

MemberI was fishing in Kippawa, Quebec on Lake Hunter back in June, went up with some guys I work with at Gander Mtn for walleye and pike.
I shot the moonrise on a D100 with a 17-35 AFS 2.8.
18 second exposure (at least according to the extif data)
f8
ISO 800I didn’t take my tripod along on the trip, duh, so I borrowed another guy’s spindly legged video tripod for the shot and got lucky on one sharp image.
If you’re interested, more of my Canada trip photos can be seen at:

I missed the total eclipse early this morning (Tuesday). Did not find out about it til after the fact. Would have been fun to get some shots.

Memberhere’s mine… taken with an old rollei twin lens reflex through a 8″ meade newtonian reflector telescope (okay so i’m an astronomy geek…)

MemberBill, I guess I didn’t specify how to shoot the moon. When were there in space?

MemberJohn, I was wondering if we had any astronomy geeks on board. Something I have not got into, but can appreciate. Great photo.
the best shot i have is a photo of saturn and its rings that i got with the same telescope and a 35mm camera. when i developed the film and print i had to basically raise the head of the enlarger as high as it would go to magnify the speck on the film, but it’s obvious that it’s saturn. if i can get a digital image of it i’ll post that too…
