I never hear that book mentioned on the boards eye2fish…but the Nick Karas book “Brook Trout” is a great read with a LOT of information on this great fish.

And maybe Zach meant…the southernmost NATIVE population of brook trout.

in reply to: Digital SLR Purchase #60837

I am surprised that no one has replied back to you on this…there are usually a lot of opinions regarding which SLR, etc. from this board.

Here is my thoughts on this…I own a Nikon D70s.  I bought this camera before the rest of the Nikon D family came out…and it was a quick decision since I needed a nice camera prior to the birth of our first child.  I don’t regret the purchase of the D70s at all.  It is a solid camera all around.  In all honesty it is more camera than I actually use since I usually shoot on Auto…and do nothing more than 4X6 prints and internet posts.

IF I was going to purchase a digital SLR today…for outdoor and fly fishing purposes mainly…I’d seriously look at the Nikon D40.  It is tiny compared to the D70s.  Finding a waterproof carry option, one hand photo taking, and even wading with this pretty big and heavy SLR has it’s downsides.  I could get a lot of use out of the D40…and now kind of wonder if I should have asked for money towards that for Christmas instead of the Pentax Optio W20.  There are a lot of benefits from a SLR over a P&S…and I am sure that it will come to a point where I’ll want a small digital SLR and the waterproof P&S for fly fishing and outdoor use.

Well…I’ll add my two cents…I am still wearing my pair of L.L.Bean Aquastealths after five or so years of HARD use.

Zach…that carpet is not from my living room.

K-9 “Ice” on a day out of the office…fly fishing in N.C.  He is very attentive to rising trout and will just stand in the water staring at the rise forms.  Once a trout is hooked though it is quite a sight…he tries to dive after the trout on the line…while attached to my wading belt with a leash.

(but I also agree this young hipster is ruining fly fishing)

Damn Zach…I guess all things wrong with the sport are your fault now.

Great photographs.  You have me missing my home state of Michigan.  I’ve fished the PM a couple of times during the summer months.  It is a really neat river.  You’ve got snow up there now, eh?

You should have posted the B&W from your blog spot.  That was my favorite one of the bunch.

I just went through a few more of the photographs on the blog…pretty damn amazing.  I like real rich color quality of them.  What photo computer program are you using.

    Post more photographs here.

Oh…and final modify of my post…props to Walt on the pipe on a winter day.
