After a nice Thanksgiving break I started another week of vacation with a day up in N.C. and met up with an old friend from Michigan that I hadn’t seen in about eight or nine years.  I started the day trying out a glass rod that had been sent to me but is going to another friend.  It is a seven foot nine inch Wonderod for five weight that I paired with a Pflueger Gem and a SA Trout WF five weight line.  Once the friend arrived he brought along a couple of bamboo rods that he had built both complete with Bill Ballan reels.  One a nice seven foot three inch four weight and the other a seven and a half foot parabolic five/six weight.  Very nice rods and have got me thinking that a seven or so foot long cane rod needs to be on the short list of rods for 2007.

Those Bill Ballan reels are pretty damn classy looking…and with enough weight to balance out a cane rod.

Well…Day One of vacation knocked out…prepping to leave today since we are off to Seattle/Olympic N.P. tomorrow…back next Monday.  I am going without fly gear…but we’ll have a good time nonetheless.

Is it me or is the ‘bow in the first photo smiling?

Seriously, great photos. I too stopped to stare at the trout in the water (#4).

He might be laughing at the old Wonderod that caught him…

    Thanks for the compliments.

Simms makes a waterproof bag (Dry Creek Camera Bag I think) that will fit on your wading belt that works for point and shoot camera. I carry a Nikon 8400. 400.00 plus the cost of the card I would hate to get it soaked. That Ghost net makes a decent background!

Thanks Cameron. I remember seeing those old wonderods as a kid. I think I’ll keep my eye out for one.
