I wanted to get PoudreRiver’s approval before posting any more photographs of him. Here are a few more from the trip.
PoudreRiver wet wading in the meadow water. It was all fun and games until it started raining…and I had told him to skip bringing along the rain jacket. My bad.
PR working a stretch of water with cigar lit to keep the mosquitos away.
Joel’s boat…complete with a Johnson motor that took a single pull usually to fire to life. We were so sure of the motor…we didn’t even carry oars. Looking back…that could have been a problem.
PR with a lake cutthroat. This fish had a lot of fight for their size.
How did that Whitey fit that dry fly in it’s mouth?
Cigar again…this time to keep those pesky Spruce Moths away. Ha…
Dave is a master boatsman…and kept us on top of feeding fish all week.Joel…how about camo WITH spikes? Ha. Next Riley will want to pierce his nose…and put some ink on his shoulder. Ha.
Joel…it was a “pleasure” losing my $10 to you. It didn’t feel to bad at all since out of five players (including the notorious “cheater”) it came down to you and I in the end. Just an idea but maybe you could take the winnings and purchase Riley a new collar…ha.
You see that sad look in his eyes over the “huckleberry” collar. Do it for him…
I am sitting at Gate 2 at the Columbia Metro Airport right now and about to embark on three flights this evening to get into Bozeman by tonight.
Jay…describing rod action is usually pretty tough to explain…but one of the fellows on the Fiberglass Flyrodders site came very close with this explination.
The reel seat on the “F” is a bit finicky about which reels work and which don’t. I can see in your photograph David that the ring is having a bit of a time sliding down the reel foot. I had the same problem when I tried using my Tibor Spring Creek CL with the “F”.
Now I have the funky green J. W. Young with a onepfoot.com Young foot that works perfectly.
$300 is what I paid for my Scott “F” as well since shop in Colorado was getting rid of their Scott line. PoudreRiver graciously gave me the tip on that. Thanks again PR. If you have a coupon…cash it in on the “F”…$300 is a steal no matter how you look at it.
I’d be really interested to put hands on the four weight since I think I could do a bit more with that rod. The three is a lot of fun…but is a small lightweight rod nonetheless.
I am also running SA XPS line on my “F”. I believe it is 3DT. Great line…and the grey color matches perfectly.
OK…I put backing and line on the Pridex. I ended up having to cut the 4DT in half since the reel wouldn’t even hold the whole fly line without any backing. I like the way this AirFLO Ridge Line feels.
I took the rod out to the front lawn and gave it a short workout. It has a very nice feel to it and I was laying the half line out with relative ease. I can see this rod doing short work without issues as well.
Montana can’t come fast enough…
