The Yen is very low right now…so I picked up one of these yellow Fenwick fiberglass fly rods last night.

    Hi Cameron
    Has your rod arrived yet?
I’m thinking of getting one or making one up.
What did you get and what applications do you have in mind for it.
    🙂

    No…the rod hasn’t arrived yet.

    Why Japan?

    #19970

To my knowledge they are building rods that can’t be gotten over here.  There are actually a few Japanese builders that are doing really beautiful work with glass…and the prices are reasonable.

Yeah Carter…five pieces…that is going to make a nice alpine lake pack rod.

The ferules are beautiful from what you can see in that picture and made of solid glass, I bet it still casts great.

    26,000 Yen is $211.89 U.S. dollars.

    Yes
    Thanks Cameron!
They are sweet looking rods and the Japanese certainly take their craftsmanship seriously, especially these cottage industry guys.
I’m sorta regressing with my rod choices in some areas but havn’t quite gone the whole hog with reels yet!? 🙂 Bet that reel will be nice on that rod though!!!
I’m thinking of making up a rod on a locally produced fiberglass blank. we can pick a colour and have them make it up. I wanted to compare the cost of making one to purchasing something as unique as what you have ordered.
The idea that it is 5pce though is really something.
Here I can only get a 2 pce blank.
What else is out there that would compare?

The Fenwick Continental Tourer arrived today and I couldn’t be happier with it.  All I’ve had a chance to do is an in house wiggle…but I am impressed so far.

    Wow!
    That is really nice Cameron!
I bought an F over ebay many moons ago and it was not finished anything like that!
That is a sweet rod and the cork is so clean and without filler too!
Looking forward to seeing some pics of that rod and reel combo in the future!
    Tight lines!

That is quite a nice looking little rod.

OK…I put backing and line on the Pridex. I ended up having to cut the 4DT in half since the reel wouldn’t even hold the whole fly line without any backing. I like the way this AirFLO Ridge Line feels.

I took the rod out to the front lawn and gave it a short workout. It has a very nice feel to it and I was laying the half line out with relative ease. I can see this rod doing short work without issues as well.

    Montana can’t come fast enough…

    If I can Hi-jack for a second here –

What are some other new glass rods around ?
Here I’ve really only seen the Scotts and one Diamond back.

I tried to get a T&T one for a magazine review, but it hasn’t happend yet..

Is there a link – links with a range or something ?

    I love the glass rods I’ve tried ( I have 4 of the F’s now ) and wouldn’t mind trying a few more !!

Remember the old bumper sticker “Gas, grass or ass nobody rides for free” ?
Maybe that should be “Glass, grass or graphite”
