David…I am not sure that this rod is “a must have rod”…but I am intrigued with it nonthless.  Several of the members on the Fiberglass Flyrodders forum have them and they are well thought of.  And I have a soft spot for yellow fiberglass rods since my first was an Eagle Claw Featherlight…ha.

This thread has the links for purchasing these Japanese yellow Fenwick fly rods.

Whoops, just noticed the other thread !

Thanks for the links – I have a soft spot for glass rods, but there’s not much around here in Oz.

My first rod (in 1975 ish ) was an Eagleclaw as well, I think it was an eight, must have weighed that in pounds anyway.. ;D

I am planning on purchasing the F 7′ 3 weight.

    Hi Spencer..
If you have a pulse you’ll love the F #3, it’s IMO the best rod Scott make and a joy to fish with..

I found the S.A. Xps line matches it very well for Australian small streams.. 🙂

Here’s a pick of a Thredbo river brown with mine.

    At $300 it’s a steal…

$300 is what I paid for my Scott “F” as well since  shop in Colorado was getting rid of their Scott line.  PoudreRiver graciously gave me the tip on that.  Thanks again PR.  If you have a coupon…cash it in on the “F”…$300 is a steal no matter how you look at it.

I’d be really interested to put hands on the four weight since I think I could do a bit more with that rod.  The three is a lot of fun…but is a small lightweight rod nonetheless.

I am also running SA XPS line on my “F”.  I believe it is 3DT.  Great line…and the grey color matches perfectly.

    Cameron – that’s a Sage 3100.

The reel seat on the “F” is a bit finicky about which reels work and which don’t.  I can see in your photograph David that the ring is having a bit of a time sliding down the reel foot.  I had the same problem when I tried using my Tibor Spring Creek CL with the “F”.

Now I have the funky green J. W. Young with a onepfoot.com Young foot that works perfectly.

That the same Scott I have too!
    Cool!
They really are nice rods. $300?

    #21156

    That’s a great lookin reel !
Can you get them new ?

I have that sliding band problem with all my little reels on that rod, I think the cut for the foot is a bit shallow – the reels never fallen off however.

I’m now using this little Bougle for the #3 F and the St. George Jr below for the #2 F’s as it’s a little more in keeping with their old world charm and the extra weight of the hardys balances out the tippy weight of the rods a bit better.
The Sage 3100 because of it’s light weight now lives on the TXL #3 and SLT #2 I use when not feeling retro or in the wind.  😉

    Hi Spencer,
I have both those rods but haven’t had a lot of time on the water with the 4 yet because it arrived at the end of the season

Nice post Cameron. The AuSable system is my “Home Water.” I will be going for browns next week. We fish mostly at night so pictures are kinda hard.

My First post on this forum… and this thread was the reason I created a user and will add my 2 cents every now and then…

I recently acquired a 6’ 2W F Series (the original)… I think will compliment my Sage 00 and my Scott 3W G 7’7(original). I think I am set for my small stream expeditions.

I have a little Lochmore reel on it, loaded with XPS DT and a spare spool loaded with a Triangle Taper on it. Originally I bought a Quite taper for it, as I love it on my twin (Sage 00), however I found that the line/rod combo could not turn the leader over. So a mate and I grabbed as many used lines as we could and spent an afternoon testing lines. Eventually settling on a XPS WF, however the Triangle taper really worked the rod well, so I bought the XPS DT as the primary line and the Triangle will be kept in the wings, for the windier days.

Great thread and even better pics, I have attached 2 pics, but can’t decide where she will get her first run…
