Buying a switch rod is a lot like buying any other rod – if you want to be able to fish different situations ideally you’ll need more than one stick.

This past fall I fished quite a bit with a two handed rod in the surf all over Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

In streams where there is a large crayfish population a cone headed rubber legged wolly bugger is pretty hard to beat.
It won’t be long now. I got this one back in August surf casting with the two handed off of a tributary mouth…the first of the “fall season” for me.
And couple of steelhead streamer favorites…

Scroll towards the bottom–the 3rd from the last video is all about spinning deer hair and would definitely help you out some.
Donny Beaver has been at work all over “steelhead alley”–he’s also leased sections of Ohio’s Conneaut Creek whose steelhead stocking partnership between Ohio and Pennsylvania makes it a great stream in both the fall and spring seasons.
He’s also booked guides for entire seasons–meaning that he cuts them a check for 30 trips, whenever he has clients for them the guide will take them out, but if Beaver doesn’t have clients, or conditions are unsuitable for fishing the guide can keep the money.

I’d ditto what Feenstra said–clump it in like rams wool except take it a step further by using more clumps and tie those clumps down in more places.
When I swing I’ve been going with switch rods–10′-11′ in length, 8 or 9 weights using mostly skagit lines/heads.
I had the chance to speak for quite a while with the guys at the SA booth at the show this past weekend in Marlborough MA.

I’m sure Jim will tell you something similar as this, being as we fish together quite a bit (Jim was actually the guy who turned me on to Zach’s podcasts and to this board).
There’s a decent amount of access to streams that are fairly close to Cleveland, the best being on the Rocky and the Chagrin.
Yes I am–home is just outside the Cleveland area.
I haven’t really had a chance to play with the TFO’s yet–I’ve heard a little bit about their convertible switch that I was somewhat interested in getting my hands on but just haven’t had a chance to pursue that as of this point in time.
