My go to cobia fly is a black bonita bunny with some red trim and a little flash.  For some reason they like long, eel like flies.  I tie mine on a 2/0 hook with a light conehead for weight.  Total fly length is about 6 inches, however, the rabbit strip fly is easy to cast.

Cast the fly in front of and just beyond the fish and strip it in fast, jerky strips across their path.  The rabbit stip gives the fly a lot of motion which attracts the fish.  They will chase it and hit it hard once they see it.

If you are comfortable casting it, I think you will like the tip flex for Florida.

Zach, How is the voting coming along so far? When does it close?

I just can’t wait to see who the big winner is going to be! 😮

    Joel

Joel – When you win this thing, what are you going to do for that week in the cabin? 😀

I would be willing to trade prizes and you can even keep the pants. ::)

The only thing I use tube flies for is shark.  I use quick rusting circle hooks on big flies so tying the fly on the hook would be a waste.  You can also tie in a wire tippet inside the fly.  That way, if you have to cut it off, there is a good chance you can recover the fly.

I would suggest taking pictures of them, but not posting it until they have had time to be delivered.

Oh well, since everyone else is posting something about there picture, I will too.  Mine doesn’t make sence if you don’t know the story. I am recovering from GBS (Guillian Barre Syndrome) so I wasn’t getting on the water to much, so I posted this story with the picture:

    Florida Grass Trout

“I’m still not able to get out on the water much.  So I decided to try my luck at the elusive Florida Grass Trout.  My neighborhood is a notorious spawning ground, so I went out sight casting to one of the big females.  I sighted one laying up in the shadows under one of my hibiscus bushes.  One cast, right on the nose and “FISH ON”.  The battle was epic.  Long runs across the neighbors yard, up the sidewalk, across the driveway,  but I was finally able to bring it to chair.  I definately think this is a record, but before I could get the tape on it, it jumped out of my hands and took off down the street.”

After saying that I always put a few bucks in to help with postage, I managed to stick my flies in the mailbox without it.

Are we finally going to see female fly fishers portrayed accurately?
    Zach

I have made a thorough study of female anglers in all of the fishing publications.  I have found that female anglers are always attractive, never sweat and always wear bikinis.  For some reason, I never run into them on the water, however.

I hold a Florida saltwater liscense, so it doesn’t directly affect me.
