Federal Saltwater Fishing Registration Proposed

NOAA’s Fisheries Service is proposing a rule to require saltwater angler registration in 2009.

That headline is actually a bit misleading (NOAA’s, not yours Scott) since the Saltwater Angler Registry is already law, and it will begin 1/1/09.

“States without saltwater licenses have a strong incentive to adopt licenses,” said Balsiger. “Any fee that a state collects through a license can be used for restoration and fishery management in the state. This looks like another tax to me.

I hold a Florida saltwater liscense, so it doesn’t directly affect me.  My problem is that this is another invasion of privacy by the Federal Government.  The only purpose of the bill is to track recreational fishermen.  It amazes me how we have become so accustomed to government intrusion, that we don’t even recognise it anymore.  (I hope the Feds aren’t monitoring this site  :-?, if so, nevermind.)
