Do you mean the foam pieces come loose from the box?

I bow to the prescient one.  Good post, I’ve never tried that but I will.  On the other hand I admit I have caught fish with a soft hackle while it drug at the end of the swing while I fiddled with something else or waded to a new spot.  I’m more the Karnac type swami!  Reminds me of a funny quote I saw in the paper couple days ago:  “I got engaged to a clairvoyant but she dumped me before I met her”

Life is too short to drink bad coffee or fish with inferior tackle.

Other than cost I think the only advantages traditional dacron braid like Micron is that it has less tendency to dig in under the beneath layers when pulled on hard, that it is less likely to cut your fingers and holds knots better.

As you would expect choosing a skiff or any boat for that matter is like choosing a fly rod or canoe.

Joel, here are the photos of how I clamp the end of the rope, it’s pretty simple.

As long as we are on the subject of seats and seat backs, here are some photos of my solution.  This was my own design so call me Rube Goldberg but it has worked well for the rowers seat.  I can lean it back for difficult rowing or set it up for slow water or while eating lunch.

Joel, I built my rope seats by starting with the idea from MBB but took liberties.

I definitely prefer large arbor reels even though you give up some line capacity for 3 main reasons: 1) you can retrieve line faster the bigger the diameter 2) the line doesn’t develop as tight of kinks 3) the drag stays more consistent as line is taken out.
