MemberThanks guys for all the great responses. I’m going to take each of these techniques out this week and the next and see which one fits me. Truly appreciate it, I’m sure this will help me take better pictures.

MemberSo John, you’re shooting on auto WB and then correcting in PS post.

MemberNow when I shot this one, it was one scary stalk with my Black Berry camera ….Just Kidding, he was at a Safari park.

MemberMike – I was reading and rereading through this post and I couldn’t help, but notice the similarity in approach of wild animals for photography purposes and Bow Hunting. People have discussed blinds, camo and stalking. Now by no means do I have a tenth of the skills behind glass as the guys above, but I do have a lot of years growing up in Minnesota hunting Whitetails via the tactics mentioned above. Now I don’t have long glass, what I do most my shooting with is a 2.8 vr 200mm. Here are the three things I try and do when sneaking up on animals. ( I hope this makes sense).
1. Come from downwind.
2. Use Cover and Concealment to mask my movements
3. Never take more than four steps in a row.

The above three are shot with the 200 all the way out this below shot was taken with a 50m, to give you perspective of how close I got to this animal, before he figured out we were there. I apologize for the poor quality, I’m still figuring out the hand hold.

MemberI really enjoyed your pictures Aaron. Definitely changing my mind about what I think of when I think of Arizona! Looks like you have a beautiful piece of cool mounatins and trout to escape to during the summer. I am jealous. 🙂
Thanks John, let me know if you ever make it down this way. Happy to show you some of the Arizona treasures.

MemberZ – Your thoughts on these fish inhabiting mostly streams is correct. There are a few choice lakes that have them too.
Aaron Otto
MemberThanks Zach, that is embarrassing. I appreciate your assistance..

MemberThanks JamesW for the compliment.
Simon – isn’t that the truth- treasure every moment with your little ones. I kid you not, the first thing I whispered into my son’s ear, immediatly after he was born was, “we will fish.”

If those are hackshots……I’m hopeless. Wow is all I can say, I wish I had half the talent you have – amazing work.
Aaron Otto
MemberWell done. That’s not just any apache trout–it’s a damn big one. The gape on that thing is amazing. Cool fish.

MemberAaron,
All fantastic pictures, but the last one is amazing. That is a special piece of water and that picture really captures the excitement of laying eyes on it for the first time (or the 50th!). Thanks much for sharing!
Jim, isn’t that the truth.

MemberDavid –
Of course all of this is just this idiots opinion.
No idoit there, Tim, you hit the nail on the head. Come on, what do the waders do for you besdies keep you dry? For Seven bills and the tax I could spend a night at the Ranch in Vegas and get a pair of G3s with the change.
