In some cases, yes that would be accurate generally, but not always.

Many reels have the exact same drag cores. For instance, Lamson uses the same core across a wide range of reels. That core provides X amount of resistance and that X value would be consistent on different models, with an exception. The exception is the outside diameter of the line coil. Think of the gears on a ten speed bicycle. The larger diameter reel is going to actually provide more resistance in terms of drag pounds than a smaller diameter reel with the same drag core. This also applies as you lose line, actually–drag resistance at the back end of your backing will be considerably weaker than when the reel is full, because the fish has a mechanical advantage pulling against a ‘smaller gear.’
Further, some manufacturers, especially on better reels, greatly increase the surface area of their drag mechanisms for larger sized reels. I know Abel, Tibor and Nautilus do this. Generally speaking your draw-bar style reels or those using updated copies of that “donut drag” design are going to be able to (a) provide stronger drag settings and (b) take advantage of larger overall reel size to add more drag area, when compared to a gear drag reel such as most of the Sage reels or a lot of the lower end Orvis reels.
There’s a lot more detail in the article. The differences may not be terribly noticeable, but technically, I think your hypothesis would be incorrect.

I appreciate everyone’s great feedback about filters and their use. I have learned a lot.
BTW, most of my shots are taken when something happens, like someone lands a big trout and I take a shot. I can’t control the lighting. At the same time, I do recognize now that if I want to take landscape shots it is best to do it when there is better lighting.

The technical side of the podcasts has been very much an evolution. I started with a weird analog headset thingamajig that connected to my cell phone, then graduated to a headset microphone like an online gamer would have. Now I use that just for my ears and speak into a proper tabletop mike (it looks like the one on Letterman’s desk). I have to erect a sound booth out of a carpet and a bunch of clamps in my office for every session, and then I go through and do my best to fine-tune the sound quality afterward in the processing program. It’s a hassle but I know bad sound can be super annoying.

If you want a cheap way with a little work on your part… find a dog trainer that uses quail for dog training. They usually throw away the dead birds and don’t mind you plucking feathers off their dead birds or skinning one. Just be sure to treat the feathers.
Zach, I have really enjoyed your podcasts and I have sent many others to listen to them. they comments I get are very positive and thanked me for telling them about it.
I would recommend you push your “Subscribe to the Podcast” to the top of the page. Right now the user has to scroll way down the page to find it, if they ever do.
Also, it would be great to have an email blast option sent to subscribers when a new podcast is added, instead of having to go to the forum to see the announcement.

More likely, they would not have seen any problems as the fish’s injuries would not affect it immediately.
I’m looking for the ability to drop a very black background a few feet behind the working area, then light the area with a desk light such as my natural light job, not with a flash. When shooting the sequence pics, you have to have your hands or tools in the frame at times, too. Not very conducive to a lot of finicky lighting.
The idea is to make a swathe of light in front of me with a very black background behind. This is what I did for the sequence in the upcoming issue and it worked, but I still had to tinker because the felt showed texture in the background where light spilled over.
