The Itinerant AnglerHey Kyle-
We played with the FM3a and I wasn’t wild about the color-coded match needle system.

The Itinerant AnglerHey Kyle-
Yes, at this point I am leaning towards, or at least looking into, the AF-S 80-200.

The Itinerant AnglerThanks Dunfly.
I am currently borrowing my parents’ old K1000 – a great camera.

The Itinerant AnglerHey Long Shank-
So far, so good.

The Itinerant AnglerHey Dunfly-
I don’t know anything about Canon at all so I won’t pretend to offer advice, but I will point out that by leaving the DSLR out of the picture, you open up a whole world of affordable underwater housings!

The Itinerant AnglerHey Flysmith-
Welcome to the board and thanks for the post. Personally I think that number is a little high, but I may have close to that many myself. I counted not too long ago and was surprised to learn that I had 350 flies in my nymph box alone. I carry around a total of about 800 flies in my usual three boxes, nymph, streamer, and dry.
Usually I figure I have more crap laying around than other people, though, so if I am just approaching 2,000 flies, surely the average can’t be that high? Most fly fishermen buy at least some of their flies (I probably tie 95% of mine). If you figure half of that supposed 2,000 flies was purchased, you are talking about $2,000 worth of flies!
I agree with you, no way that can be right.

The Itinerant AnglerHey CanoeFlyGuy-
Thanks for the comments on the site. Where did you ask, just so I know who recommended us?
Gatlinburg/Sevierville is very very touristy and I would avoid being in town there as much as possible. If you are up for a little drive, Barley’s in Knoxville’s Old City is about a half hour away and very cool. I believe Blount County is dry and I’ve never seen a bar per se over in Townsend.
Gatlinburg is literally about as un-Tennessee as a town can get. Knoxville is a very cool town though and you couldn’t go wrong hitting the Old City. Just follow these directions:
When you are in the Smokies, go to Elkmont and fish up Little River from the campsite trailhead. I would walk in a mile or so before starting. Alternatively, go over to Tremont on the west side of the Park and fish anywhere along the road. I am going to be fishing the Smokies this weekend – when did you say you were coming? Drop me a message here and I will let you know what is working.
Thanks,

Another question raised by the picture: how do you keep your camera dry in the kayak?

The Itinerant AnglerThanks for the recommendation, Guy.
Do you happen to know what the camping arrangement is within the park?
Zach Matthews
The Itinerant AnglerThat’s a great picture, Dunfly, thanks for sharing it.
The only really big fish I have ever seen in the water were paddlefish in Arkansas, which range from about 60 to about 120 lbs.
Zach Matthews
The Itinerant AnglerHaven’t been able to get on the water, Roger.
Zach Matthews
The Itinerant AnglerDo you ever get bumped out there in your kayak by sharks or dolphins or whatever?
