I value feedback on the Podcasts

Hey guys –

Just wanted to take a moment to let you know that I really value your feedback on the podcasts.  I always make a post here on the board when a new one goes up, in an effort to get the discussion going, but lately that has not had much effect.  I also always read all the comments which are made both on the iTunes store and locally in the blog of this site.

I know people listen to these shows because I can see the download numbers, but just like with magazine articles, you’d be surprised how few folks take the time to comment (even if that comment is bad!)

Content producers of all kinds, whether writers, podcasters, bloggers or heck even movie-makers all love to hear from the people who consume that content.  

So thanks to those of you have have commented or provided feedback.  And to those who haven’t, if you find yourself thinking something–anything really–about these shows, I’d love to hear it.

I value the podcasts.

I don’t find every subject or guest interesting but most of them are very good. I think that it speaks to the effort put into them that the music is new each time and very unique. nice touch.

If I had one criticism it would be volume control. At times, the guest can be hard to hear but the interviewer too loud and vice versa.

Overall the topics are varied and interesting and I like them. I’m looking forward to more.

Zach, I have really enjoyed your podcasts and I have sent many others to listen to them. they comments I get are very positive and thanked me for telling them about it.

I would recommend you push your “Subscribe to the Podcast” to the top of the page. Right now the user has to scroll way down the page to find it, if they ever do.

Also, it would be great to have an email blast option sent to subscribers when a new podcast is added, instead of having to go to the forum to see the announcement.

The technical side of the podcasts has been very much an evolution.  I started with a weird analog headset thingamajig that connected to my cell phone, then graduated to a headset microphone like an online gamer would have.  Now I use that just for my ears and speak into a proper tabletop mike (it looks like the one on Letterman’s desk).  I have to erect a sound booth out of a carpet and a bunch of clamps in my office for every session, and then I go through and do my best to fine-tune the sound quality afterward in the processing program.  It’s a hassle but I know bad sound can be super annoying.

Zach…the quality of the podcasts is excellent and you’re routinely lining up interesting guests that I haven’t already heard on another podcast which is a huge success factor as well.

I admit to being one of those who faithfully listens and never comments, so I’m going to add mine here.

I think you do a great job in the selection of the topics/interviewees. I personally do not find some of them of interest (Film Flies) but others I thought were fantastic (Chris Wood, among them). It all depends on the listener and I think you do a fantastic job of trying to cover all the fly fishing bases – gear, conservation, publishing, salt versus fresh water.

Zach,
I have enjoyed listening to many of your Podcasts.  Of course, some are more interesting that others.  The latest with Brad Befus was very interesting to me.  I have a Ross Reel and it gets used more that the other trout reels.  It is very smooth and light.  
Since there has been some interest in T & T, how about interviewing Tom Dorsey?  Not just a graphite rod builder, but an expert with bamboo as well.  Another would be John Geirach.  Can’t remember his name but the head of HareLine may be good.  Seems most of my dubbing comes from them or Wapsi.
You have introduced me to new music, at least to me, that I enjoy.
