Red, but I got some black paint to mix in to knock it down a little from the fire engine red Interlux has on offer.

GOOP is the best glue, but it isn’t very tacky initially.  Once set, it will shear almost any surface before it breaks the bond to the eye.  It isn’t good for you to inhale, incidentally.  You can get it cheapest in the shoes aisle of a Wal-Mart where it is sold as something like ‘Shoe Goo.’

CCG meanwhile is great for building actual solid heads where the eye is encased, but it is poor as a straight-up adhesive, because it is really just a curable plastic.

Ordered Sea Dek today for the buttresses.  This is the idea (the yellow foam is cut to the same size I could order, which turned out to be basically perfect).

Going to do a rope loop for the rear of the rod and some kind of strap or bungee across the SeaDek to hold it tight to the wall.  That’ll keep out-of-use rods out of the way.

Tubing is just 2″ schedule 40 PVC.  It’s very stiff in short segments, which gave us a lot of trouble.

Dry Rub is from Southern Soul BBQ on St. Simon’s Island, GA, which is the best barbecue I have ever had, seriously:

At least as shown on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, the Southern Soul butt rub recipe is roughly as follows: mix one tablespoon of each of the following in a plastic bag: kosher salt, chili powder, ground black pepper, paprika, powdered garlic, powdered onion, thyme leaves, cumin. Then add two tablespoons of turbinado sugar and a cup of light brown sugar. Shake, then rub. I totally eyeballed this from a much larger recipe so who knows if it is even close to right. Oh and baste/spray liberally in apple juice while smoking. I finished mine in my oven at 225 for 5-6 hours to keep the temp constant.

As soon as I can pick up more epoxy I’ll finish the glass.

Got quite a bit done today and may be able to finish the glass tomorrow, but it’s going to depend on materials.

    Why stir the pot, Brian?

Waffles are just waffles man.  I have a recipe for a new dry rub I want to try.  I would invite you to help rub my pork butt but I know where you’d go with that so I won’t even say it.

    Hahahah.

    Jeff –

Nine foot Horrocks-Ibbotsons are going to be slow no matter what, but it will also look great and be fun for you.  I’d recommend a short-headed WF if you want to use it like a more modern trout rod (nymphing, etc.), but if you’re wanting to cast dry flies and traditional wets, sure, get a DT.

I have no idea what “looking tit” means but I like it and I plan to use it from now on.

Any of the 15′ or longer models can be poled.

Got the buttress foam cut off smooth and the rear “box” fully clamped up at lunch.  There is not a single right angle in this boat and the transom torqued about 1/2″ from side to side when it was pulled off the mold.  I am going to have to do some fine work to get my decks level (completely ignoring the rails, let me tell you).

The Brute Box coolers have a metal closure which is “rubberized” over it.

    I didn’t make a thread but it isn’t complicated.
