line for Bamboo rod

So I have an old 9′ 3piece rod that is most likely a H&I rod (thats what i was told) and it was definitely redone or maybe a custom build for a tacke shop b/c it looks great. However I’m a bamboo newbie and from what I’ve read it’s most likely a sh*t rod but dam it looks good!…should i get a line designed for bamboo like the Cortland sylk which would cost more than the rod or just a generic 6wt DT/WF?…it wont be my primary rod.

Nine foot Horrocks-Ibbotsons are going to be slow no matter what, but it will also look great and be fun for you. I’d recommend a short-headed WF if you want to use it like a more modern trout rod (nymphing, etc.), but if you’re wanting to cast dry flies and traditional wets, sure, get a DT.

We always offer the advice of getting a supple DT line, they seem to work best on boo…
Sci Anglers Supra is the recomendation. DT’s transfer the energy better for boo, your line speed will not be high, thus shooting line is limitied, DT’s are able to hold the rods energy better and transfer it more smothly to the front taper. Remember u can’t put energy in running line.

A line many of us used before the Sylk was introduced was the Royal Wulff Triangle Taper. It is a WF but the front taper is amortized over a longer distance than most wf’s.
It casts like a dt but shoots like a WF but not chunky like most WF’s.
It is mid priced. Good luck.I’ve not tried the Supra line that Mike suggests, but would second Brian’s thoughts on the Wulff TT lines.
