Now a day, the fiberglass rod have a lot of variations and different personalities. From rods that close to cane action to rods that close to graphite action. S-glass, E-glss etc… “Sometimes”
If I remember correctly the G1 was a 4-5 reel while the G2 was a 5-6 reel.
You could also look for a classic reel. I often use a Hardy Perfect on my Scott G2 905.
You could look for a Pfleugler 1492 or a Young Pridex.

Thanks for the post! A fabulous trip! 😀I have cast the 691/4 Zaxis. Another great rod. I am actually a little disappointed in a way. It seems like sage tried to create thier version of the BIIX, and in the process sort of took away there golden calf the XP. I was never really a fan of the xp until I started smallmouth fishing and using a variety of line types and heavy/big flies. The Zaxis can do this, just doesnt do it as well in my opinion.
The Biix and Zaxis both seem to have this soft tip strong butt section design, and it doesnt feel very progressive to me. Lord knows I am not that good of a caster, but when you trout fish with rods like the G2, Old G, and WT. You kind of have a different feel for rods. Needless to say I think the E2 6wt is the a primo streamer rod.

I have exact the same feeling about the Zed that you just described.I still have to agree Zed is very very nice and light rod though. But for me, I use a lot of heavy fly in windy day, I “punch the line”
Me and my friends use very heavy tube flies for river stripers. I attached the heavy cone to the plastic tubes and burn the “mouth” end to lock in the corn head. This also create a nice smooth “lip”. This is “shock and awe” style flyis developed from a friend – Anil in puget sound area WA. It sink and swim extremely well. I am learning cast this heavy flies with skagit shooting head…(not sure if this work for the traditional spey though) might have some report later…here is the photo
