noneMemberI think a (used) Ross Gunnison G1 would look great on your rod.

MemberG-2 was my thought, does the G-1 hold a 5 weight line and backing?
Oct 13, 2007 at 10:42 pm #20368
noneMemberIf I remember correctly the G1 was a 4-5 reel while the G2 was a 5-6 reel.
You could also look for a classic reel. I often use a Hardy Perfect on my Scott G2 905.
You could look for a Pfleugler 1492 or a Young Pridex.

MemberI like my English Battenkill Bar Stocks well enough, but I also like the new Teton Tioga I recently picked up.

MemberI would go with the Battenkill LA-I have a mid—it is nice, but I also a LA–you can get it for $105 right now.

MemberJust to offer an alternative to the Orvis and Ross reels, if you want to spend a tad more ($130) you could get a Lamson Konic. Also you could look at an older model Lamson Radius that can be gotten for around a hundred bucks if you tackle Google with good search terms.

MemberAlrighty, I bought the other Gunnison G2 that was listed… I couldn’t resist for $130
The first one arrived and it appears to be completely unused and new.

MemberI took the new Gunnison and Rio Gold line in to a local shop to have backing put on and the fly line, the employee was blown away. First thought was, how did you get a new unused Gunnison. Secondly, we don’t even have the Rio Gold in stock yet, how did you get it? Both purchased online for a total of $170, the employee was not the owner, I am sure the owner would not exactly be impressed with that story. The employee simply stated, I am very jealous and couldn’t believe the deals I got.

The Itinerant AnglerJay –
That is a sweet setup, and you got a hell of a reelseat on that G2.

noneMemberThanks Zach.
The Hardy Perfect is the workhorse of the classic Hardys I think. Too bad the LHW versions of the Perfect are much rarer that the common RHW. The LHW versions tend to be quite expensive.
If you don’t mind winding the ‘wrong way’ you can save quite some bucks.Jay
