MemberStrange images!!!!!!! what is that liquid ? How come you can lift those fish out of the liquid but there appears to be no 6″ auger access hole ????
Just curious- we are sitting here waiting for a huge flood and the only current / flowing water is in the throne – not that I stare down the throne sipping a glass of wine and puffing on my fav pipe , reminicing of days gone by on the stream – watching the eddies and backcurrents and possible riffles or holding spots or glides or emergence flats or anything !!!!!
nice pics /great looking fish

MemberHi
A few years back I gave a fly tying demo in the context of a trade/fly fishing seminar show
We used a Canon ZR vid cam trained on the vise and that was ported out via a S- vid cable to the digital projector . As I remember things it went very well – no jittery vid and a decent/good/very readable

MemberThanks for the informative pics and tests John- that looks like a handy option in a number of circumstances.

MemberHi John
That looks like an interesting macro field option. Have you figured out the angle of failure ( how low to the ground does it go before it stops being usefull?)

MemberRoy- I’ll turn the question around 🙂 Does the D300s offer the same vibration reducing advantages in the use of live view and mirror lockup as described here-
http://krebsmicro.com/Canon_EFSC/index.html
If so I would be very interested in seeing the same type of example images that support that, as I have yet to see them.
I have a modest investment in Nikon field lenses-
300 mm f2.8
180 mm f2.8
20mm f2.8
105 micro f2.8
12-24 mm f4
55mm micro f2.8and a modest investment in –
Olympus research grade microscope with the D200 ( no live view so I have to cature and view)

MemberI’m in the same boat as Zach – using a D200 and looking at upgrading and less than tempted by the D300.
As a pretty much macro/photomicrography user I am interested if Nikon has stepped up to the plate with the proposed D400 and taken a page fom Canon with their implementation of live view and mirror lockup .
There is a good explanation of the advantages of the Canon approach in particular with high magnification work here –
http://krebsmicro.com/Canon_EFSC/index.html
While no doubt it is a small user group it would have me considering a Canon body to hook up to my microscope rather than a Nikon D200 upgrade one and simply keep my D200 for field/general off tripod /bashing around /non macro stuff.

MemberFilms like Tri-X for B +W and Kodachrome in Leica M bodies or Nikon F bodies were mainstays. Life also used a number of photographers using 4×5 and larger sheet film

MemberGreat work Cameron
If you are on a Nikon this a great way of controling limited DOF when working wide open. It’s a 8mm angled extension tube that can be rotated through 360 degs. Takes a bit of getting used too . I use it a lot all the way down to Nikkor 20 mm wide angles /wide open for wide angle macro stuff. The tube can be rotated to control the angle the plane of DOF is covering.
Hope an Ebay link is ok Zach? I have no connection to the listing or creator.
Hope that helps

MemberHi
I can’t really comment on the d300 or d7000 but have used the d200 for sometime and still do.
Cons-
Great camera but I have never used it above iso 250 as the noise is a bit more than I am willing to tolerate.
The AF system is a bit primitive and slow ,

MemberNeal:)) your work is beyond reproach, very sumptous and elegant – very nice and congrats !!!!!!!!!!
But where are the half empty coffee cups/ashtrays filled with pipe dottle/bandaids/thought balloons reading- ” who invented this stupid pattern” ????

MemberSomething a bit offbeat – photomicrography image of a Beatis nymph gill and supporting internal structure:) …… was a bit of a personal image making breakthrough…..
