Adam Barker’s thread below (geez he’ll probably win with that first shot) made me think it’d be a lot of fun to have everyone post their favorite or best single photo from 2010.

Not really a contest per se, but something I think’d be fun.

2010 was kind of a slow year for me photographically with no real big trips, but I still think I like this one best:

While this is not a great photo, it is my favorite because it was so amazingly difficult to get.  I was snorkleing in the Galapagos when this penquin started zooming around.  The shutter lag in my Pentax Optio W60 combined with the speed of the bird made getting it almost impossible.  I took about 50 shots with the bird in only about 5 of them.  I like this one because it shows the school of fish he was chasing.

John Voelker called them ‘lobsters’, but I like to think of them as ‘green trout’.

(I haven’t been able to keep up with IA board for a while; I hope everyone is doing well.)

Great idea Zach, but good greif so hard to pick just one. Lots of good/great photos for me inlcuding that one of the Steelhead leaping with the stone fly visible.

But I’m going with the following.

Every Fall from Mid Oct to the end of Nov I spend every free minute hunting/stalking White Tails. This year was one of my best in terms of sheers numbers and encounters but also in getting close to big bucks, with six different 10 pointers and one 13pointer all within good range. Anyone who spends the month of Sept scouting, Oct checking scrape lines and Nov trying to call the big boys in, or stalk them should appreciate it. Then add the difficulty of wanting decent to good light while playing the wind and well…till this year the big boys had largely eluded me..so there you go. I’ve better technical and artistic but few that have been a 5 year “chase”

Man I like that green trout, if a red eye was as big as he fought, it wouldn’t be safe to swim.

Ok well here is my pict:

My favorite was the Black Swallowtail Butterfly dive bombing an Osprey.

Man.  That’s tough.  I feel like i got a lot of good shots this year – improving the landscape stuff, architecture, and even some good fishing stuff.  But any one out of this series has to take the cake.  It brings together the off camera flash/OneLight stuff i have been working on, with a great trophy and a great story.  The only bummer is my brother outworked me and got to this deer before i did.   :'(

Check the full size series out here.

Beautiful images.  I have a few favorites but it is a toss up between these two…

Wow….great stuff here. Limited to only one is a tough choice but here’s mine. My youngest son left for Marine Corps boot camp at Parris Island about two weeks after this photo was taken. He was able to fish with his older brother which he had not done a lot. Older brother was heavily involved in athletics and his time was limited. So..all three of us were able to fish together on this trip to AK. The photo was taken on American Creek while they were both preoccupied with fly selection.

it was a year of moving beyond fishing photography for me so had to choose from non fishing as it’s been a challenge to get away from the rivers.

3 weddings, a number of portaits, 2 exhibitions and 2 food shoots later and I’m determined to do more fishing this year again.

Had to go for the foody one as client was really happy with the Christmas pudding shoot 🙂

Had an article in Trout & Salmon earlier in 2010 which was nice, and second one is set to go in in the spring 🙂 yay!

Nice idea for a thread. Made me go back and realize that I had a absolutely fantastic year!

    Nice shots everyone!

It was tough to narrow it down to one photo. I ended up choosing between this, a bug pic, and a fish pic. I’d have to put this down for my personal fav of the year though.

One of my favorite floats just above yankee jim on the yellowstone, one of my favorite rivers. My wife outfished me that day and my friend Will Fenoglio did a great job on the oars through the class 3s.

This one here is likely one of the most rewarding shots from 2010. It took lots of patience and luck on my part, after a couple of days I captured what I visualized.

Some spectacular shots for sure guys, keep them coming.

This one is my personal favorite.  It’s actually 4 photos – none of which actually turned out that great alone but together they worked out. I had an idea in my head that actually turned out the way I envisioned so I’m sticking with it.
