I think a boat wake floated those boxes outa my pack. I’m just glad I missed them and went looking. The Soft hackle box you found was good to have back. Had I not found the midge box you’d have heard me crying from up river. Luckily for me I ALWAYS buy boxes that float.

Tn is blessed with great fishing no doubt. It makes up for the pollen we have to deal with I guess.

Here is a report from yesterday.

Got there around 3:30 and found the fish in a very active mood. At times almost every cast was met by a 3 to 4 pound Hybrid slamming the fly. This went on for about two hours and then it just stopped. There was nothing on the graph and nothing biting. It was as if they were never there. I’ve seen this more then a few times and usually it means you need to figure out which way they went because they have moved for whatever reason and won’t be back. I was in the process of locating them again when an awesome cloud formation caught my attention. It was so cool looking I took several photos of it. In reality it was a warning of what was coming and I knew it, but I thought I saw some fish on the graph so I stayed on the water…. Around this same time the sun was setting low in the sky and it looked as if the woods in front of the sunset were on fire. I took some photos of that too.

About an thirty minutes later I was surrounded by dark brown clouds and lightning bolts everywhere. I decided I best make a run for shelter when the rains hit. The rain drops seemed like they were big as golf balls and they were beating me to death as I skimmed over mud flats in search of the shortest route back to the ramp. The only thing making me drive on and take the punishment from the rain was the ground strikes of lightning all around. I know this sounds pretty crazy but I was enjoying every minute of it. I guess its about as crazy as jumping out of an airplane or whatever other folks do to get a rush. Being exposed in mother natures fury is a humbling experience and something I don’t do often but when I do get caught in it it’s a pretty amazing show to see and be a part of.

Cameron the amount of Shad in this lake (Percy Priest) is incredible. It also gets alot of Hybrid Bass Stocked in it to help control the Shad. It has been called one of the best Hybrid Bass fisheries in the US. Don’t get me wrong it can be a tough nut to crack sometimes but when it’s good, it’s real good.

These fish don’t make the long runs like Striper but they make up for it with pure determination not to come to the boat. Imagine catching 4 to 15 pound Bluegill and you’ll have a good idea how hard they pull. Some of the most fun you can have on freshwater.

Not yet Zach I can’t find it around here.

I’ve had to replace a tip top guide twice on a 7 and 9 wt using regular lines. Now all my shooting head rods are all ceramic guides (no guide wear at all ;)).

The generation schedules have not been favorable for wading this year. There is a pretty big Dam repair Project going on and they are keeping the lake level lower then normal. Add to that the wet spring we’ve had and you get lots of generation. With a 3 or four hour window the dam is going to be your best bet for low water fishing.

Wet wading is fine as long as you don’t go too deep or it doesn’t rain on ya. Good luck!

Zach I always had to buy mine at Cabelas.

Maxima ultragreen is probably the best all around mono fishing line in world. I think Fluro is just a bit less visible underwater so I use it most of the time.

in reply to: Heavy Tippet Spools #26281

I’ve always wondered if the 200m spools etc were the same flouro as the 30m spools. If so it would seem smarter to buy in bulk.

    What are the differences?
    Are there any? 😕
Starting with what Bob said about inconsistencies through the length.

Simon I don’t have any issues with the larger spools at all. Yea, I do break fish off sometimes but it’s usually my fault and not my equipment. I use a drill motor and spool up 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 on small tippet spools with line keepers (rio). Then I keep large spools of 12 17 20 30

Seaguar fluro for spinning rods. 250 yards for $14. It’s all I use now for everything.

John swing by my site and snoop around. If you need a Guide holler.

That and you’d go broke from rebuilding them every time you break one.

Bob I see what your saying but when I think of Chrome flaking off a guide I think 1970’s eagle claw not $700 “modern” fishing rod. With today’s technology and for that price those guides should be pretty much indestructible. This is why I prefer to build most of my own rods.

Do Ninjas float well? If so then I am for this.

in reply to: sage guides  peeling #26140

I would be interested to know why the guides on a $700 rod are flaking. IMO paying another $70 to replace what seems to me like a product defect is BS. Contact Sage and see what they say. Be sure to let us know.

Why don’t floating lines float? That’s what I want my floating line to do the most! Not cast 90′ or be so slick you can’t hold it.

Nice Musky Aaron. Where are you located? I can’t find anyone who will put the time in with me to go after those guys… Its hard work, gas cost is high,
