MemberThe Xi2 is hands down my favorite personal rod but for client rods I mostly use TFO TICR’s which is a great streamer rod too. I’ve got the 7 and the 9 wt in an Xi2 and like them both equally well. I almost never cast floating lines with them unless fishing on the salt. When I do cast floating lines the Sage equator lines (SA version) seem to work great for me. I don’t know much about the taper of those lines but I can tell you that they shine on a Xi2, which I assume is what they were designed for. I picked a few spools of it up cheap when Rio took over the line and have been nothing but impressed with it, even in cold temps. I only wish I would have bought all STP had at the time.
When I’m fishing fresh water I usually throw 250 on the 7wt and 375 on the 9wt. The 7wt paired with a 30′ head 250 grain streamer express is a casting machine!

Memberpssssssssssstttttttttttttt…………his son is 10.
Read it again Lando, the boy in that photo was eight.
At 21” and 14 to 15 girth, weight calculators would put the fish around 5 to 6 pounds. I’ve caught enough of them and weighed them on bocas to know.
Mike Anderson
MemberHey if Jake says he was 8 pounds I’m not going to argue with him ;). I didn’t weight the fish but I’ve heard they get bigger by a half pound every 8 hours after you catch it. ;D BTW, these aren’t fed fish.

MemberYea I thought that was you when I saw the hat but I wasn’t sure. Small world huh. Give me a shout before you head over here next time, alright. If I can get away I’ll give you a tour of the place.
Carter if I’m getting any better it’s an accident. I’ve been working side jobs on my free time weekdays and guiding on weekends. A family of four (three drivers) and one income is hell these days. I just point and shoot without much thought lately. I really need to put more effort into it but with time so tight I’d rather just fish… I did get a new Sony Flash but again I haven’t spent the time necessary to get to know it like I need to.

MemberCheck out Snowbird creek.

MemberNot to take anything away from Trout but those fish are a real cold water challenge. I’ve beat my head against the wall over them more then once!

MemberThanks guys!
Carter those glasses are old Costas back when they made the indestructible ones. I liked em so much I got two pair.
Zach we might just do that this summer after they cut the first cut of hay off the 20 acre field. We had a 12 volt Skeet machine and shotguns on site but never brought em out due to rainy weather. Jarrod already said he’d like to do it again soon and the more the merrier. The land borders Caney with 700+ ft of frontage and good wading spots if we get low water. He plans to have electric and water and gravel out there soon. Without gravel you’ll need 4WD if it rains!

MemberOoh I’ve done it too and I know what I’m up against. But my point was I won’t hire just anybody and everybody that has been recommended is already booked. So I’ll take my own rig and spend the week trying to figure it out. If I do it’ll be alot more rewarding since I did it alone. If I don’t I’ll still have a great time. I’m not hard to please when I’m in paradise. The folks I’m staying with are pro divers and fly fishers. They claim they can tell me where to fish, we’ll see. Do you know anyone in the area?

Member20 + pieces of hand tooled high quality optical glass in one lens plus all new technology. I’m thinking it’ll be a long time till I could afford one.

MemberThe only thing worse then fishing with a wanna be fisherman is paying him $500 at the end of the day. I’m doing a DIY trip to Big Pine key with my boat in June. Everybody that was recommended was already booked. If I’m going to get zeroed I’d rather it be for free.

MemberRiver boats I’ve owned:
Gheenoe –Not big enough for what I needed but a great boat indeed and very well built. However,, compared to what a decked out Gheenoe cost and I’d go with a Supreme hands down, no question.
Riverhawk – Hated it due to poor craftsmanship. (sorry guys but almost everyone I know who has one has an issue of some kind with it) Mine had to be replaced a few months after I bought it. Expensive hull prices, for roughly a thousand more you can go Supreme…..
Lowe – Great all around alum boat. Perfect in many ways but still not a shallow water river boat and not very fly friendly. VERY HOT alum floor!! It can and will burn you and damage your $$ lines.
Supreme – Best thing since sliced bread. I can run in 3” and float in 3.5” Plenty of space- storage, customizable, flat bottom/shallow draft = little resistance, quiet, easily pulled over rocks and gravel (try that with aluminum, I have). I could go on and on about the boat…For river fishing IMO there is no better setup.
Zach the worst mistake you can make buying a boat is settling for less. You won’t be happy until you get what you wanted. Boats lose value fast and you’ll lose money upgrading. Buy it right the first time and take care of it like you plan on keeping it forever.
Steve I’d like to talk to the Supreme guys about some sales over here… Tell them to get in touch I’ve sold a few for them already.

MemberCarter we’re heading out the first week of June. Prime Bonefish, Tarpon amd Permit season.

MemberZach I think it might be easy to pole and here’s why. The bottom is flat, slick, and both ends are angled up. It has no chine’s in the hull and it only sits in about 3″ of water at rest.
Mike Anderson
MemberCarter how big a deal is Hull slap in your opinion?
What about trolling motors? Do they spook fish too? If so I need an idea for a poling platform and a pole.Mike Anderson
MemberJoel it looks like I’m going to the Keys this year but I do plan to head out west one of these days.
John there are some great Striper and Hybrid fisheries in East TN but you’ll need a guide. I could talk to some of the East TN guys on my board and see if they could do it if you’d like.

MemberZach any day now the Drum will make a spawning run up a certain river here. There will be hundreds of thousands of them. All you need to do is stand in the flats and rub your boots into the gravel. They will swim right up to you. Shots like that would be extremely easy. It doesn’t last long but I’ll holler at ya when it starts if I’m around to catch it.
These are a few I took just after I got my Sony (no polarizer).
This is the average size but some of them will be pushing 40 pounds.
Mike Anderson
MemberJoel it is addictive. Standing on the deck of a flats boat casting to hard fighting fish pretty much does it for me. When I’m doing that, there isn’t anything wrong in the universe that the next fish wouldn’t fix.
Like Ron said come on down anytime. BTW these are just the little guys. We grow em to over 20 pounds and you better have a strong wrist and a spare rod when we find some.

MemberToday at 11:00 am weather was warm sunny no wind and beautiful. At 3:30 when I got on the water there were clouds, 20+ mph north winds, and a cold front approaching. It was impossible to fly cast so we messed around looking at potential future spots. Running across 2’ swells in a 20 mph gust sure makes for a wet ride. Every spring I get baptized in a Percy Priest spray off my boat. It wouldn’t be spring without it.
About an hour before dark the wind settled some and we were in some fish. It wasn’t as many as yesterday but I was glad to see they were up feeding despite the cold front. I think this means they’ve made up their minds its time, and it’s about to really be on.
