For an easy to tie and very effective pattern for night fishing in MI look at the “Gartside Gurgler”!
I have to disagree, I have owned top end rods from every manufacturer and an Orvis Far and Fine is one of the finest casting tools I have ever used.
I taught Lefty everything he knows, so technically you should be coming to me, but I am way to busy to be giving out lessons so go ahead and try Lefty.
I think all we can say for certain is that lighter rods are lighter rods; the line weight is not going to change which is where the bulk of the mass is when you are casting. If an ounce of weight effects your ability to make the rod move back and forth by all means get the lightest rod you can. It doesn’t seem to effect my ability to fish. Is this just me?
I did a night float with mice there this summer. My buddy had several fish hit his mouse and fight briefly, I mean LARGE browns… None were landed, nice to know they are in there. That is exactly where we floated. I will be back next summer to get the skunk off.
I will be there Thanksgiving day through Saturday fishing the same water (PM). I think it should pick up to some degree. The upper man can be great at times, there are a ton of fish in that section of the river. I will post my report when I return.
