how about one leader too. no extra tippet.
i either read an article or saw a show where a guy spoke of finding things on his walk to the stream and tying flies for that day at the stream with the materials he finds-like a plucked feather.
was it a podcast here maybe?
can’t remember.
i don’t braid the tail, i tie in the feathers and pinch the tip of the tail with my left hand and somewhow wrap up the feather to the tail-like on a coffin fly, then do 4-5 loops around the feathers just in front of where my fingertips are holding it. then i wrap back down.
this is my go to fly when fishing warm water. it is deadly. drop it off a bass bug on the local lake and the potomac too.
i’ve tied it in various colors and have fished it in the salt, a pink one got me a lizard fish in kauai.
don’t want to steal your thunder on your fly but figure i’d post my favorite damsel

a lot of people buy one and find they don’t have time to use it and sell them to get rid of them.i got my kayak + paddle, leash, thigh straps, scuppers, sponge, seat, anchor, etc etc for $50 more than the retail price of just the kayak
there has been a nice ocean kayak on sale in annapolis for months now. i still look just for fun.
What I’ve learned over the years:
Less material (McFly foam > egg yarn)
Sharp scissors – 1 cut only, closer to hook = smaller egg

doesn’t have the most storage but i can deal
i can lift it with one hand and put it on my roof with ease
i can dangle my legs out and stretch and stand up in it with a simple pvc outriggerit suits my needs for local lakes, the potomac, and the bay.
its only bad when you kneel down and you get that poof of air coming out
2 of these will fix that problem
i’ve been on 1 raft (roaring fork) and 1 drift boat (salmon river ny)
the raft def had the advantage in the rocks but lacked space inside
the drift boat was easy to manuever (sp?) which helped to dodge all of the rocks, more room to walk around and store stuffi think it depends on the type of water you fish determines what type of boat. just like you would take a mountain bike off roads and on roads (inflatable) but you wouldn’t take a road bike off road (drift)
does that make sense?
i got a grab bag of rabbit pelts at cabellas with enough varity of motley pieces to last a while
i mostly use black zonker strips, lots and lots of them.
that rabbit has sharp teeth too ^
i hope no one confuses canoe repair thread with wader repair thread and puts a blow torch to their waders
i contemplated a personalized plate, as i live in the mecca of vanity plates.
though i think you have to pay a certain fee per year. the wife doesn’t want that extra expense.
saw a car once with ‘caddis’ on the plates in va
we’ve just got a ‘trout bum’ plate holder and stickers all over the carone of the best days/times to go fishing. during the super bowl and xmas morning.
streams are empty.
i’ll prob have the tv on with my vice out and tie while i listen to the game
If referring to mine, haven’t thought about a slit.
I use the weed guard to:
a. mimic the motion of feet underwater, they/it drag through the water and cut it in the front of the fly, where the forelegs would be. tinkering with idea of flaps for feet.
b. weed guard allows me to toss that thing up on the bank and drag it from the grass to splat right on the edge as if it was a real mouse falling in. a mouse intentionally going in would more or less slide in like a muskrat.believe it or not, i’ve watched you tube videos of rats swimming to figure out the best way to tie on the foam (rubber), tail, and weed guard.

watched ‘aspen extreme’ a few weeks ago, great cameo in that!does anyone remember the name of the host of the ‘fly fishing america’ where the guy drove around in a jeep cherokee and fished all over the states? i want to say that dalhberg bumped into him guiding in mongolia for the taimen hunt for big fish episode.
that was the show that got me up early on sat morning when i was in highschool.
he would end the show by writing in a journal.
My mouse is uber easy:
- tie in black vernile for tail
cut 1″ section of home depot pipe insulating foam out of the tube, taper it down with scissors
tie in weed guard
tie down sliver of foam to form base to prevent fly from rotating on hook
tie down 1″ section with heavy thread in 3 segmented sections
head cement underneath
stick on eyes if you want, fish don’t see them, add extra weight anyway
i’ll admit i have not landed a fish on one yet, still trying.

we are in a drought of fishing shows here.
i search and search using the dvr technology and only find hunt for big fish and the above mentioned cindy garrison show.no more andy mill, barret productions etc, etc.
i’m up early on sat and sunday watching ‘football’ and get depressed that there are no fishing shows anymore-that aren’t bass tournysmy choices are Vs. and the duece, meh
