I use the articulated shank system from Flymen Fishing Company. They have different lengths to help with fly size. Check it out http://flymenfishingcompany.org/products/fish-skull™-products/articulated-shank/

Nice work guys, great looking flies.

Another thought on tube material, being a RC airplane flyer, go to your local RC hobby store and look for the tubes used on RC cars and truck for the antenna. I worked at Hobby Town and they had a bulk container that had all kinds of colors and the price was $1.50 for a 18″ long tube.

I use the Scrubbing Bubbles Foam spray bathroom cleaner, spray on the cork and let it soak for 30 to 40 seconds, then use a wash cloth to scrub it. It usually takes two applications to get a good clean. This also moisturizes the cork and makes it feel new.

I’ll be if it ain’t Ben, glad to see you are still kicking around. Wish we could fish together one more time.

John, no but with the generation you have to fish from Wilbur down to Hunter Bridge. It is fishing very well. We are getting them on everything. The weekends will let you fish the Caddis Riffle and I haven’t heard a report yet on that float. I have been doing the high water on both tailwaters.

Yes the skiffs readily accept trolling motors. Your best to get a short shaft motor when you get one.

    John

The skiff style of river boats will draft maybe two inches shallower that the standard driftboat designs. The reason is they have more surface area of the hull on the water due to the wider ends. The only drawback we are seeing is that they get the front seated person wet when dropping in a deep standing wave like those on some of our rivers.
There are some guys in Boone, NC building all welded skiffs, they are on Facebook as well as have a website, http://www.pescedriftboat.com/

in reply to: Guided Float fishing trips #46950

As an independent guide I feel the shop guide can clear more income on his trips.
I pay fees for substantial liability and medical insurance, commercial vehicle insurance because I transport clients to the rivers. There are state and county business taxes on my equipment, boats, rods, waders and such. Business cards and brochures to pass out at the shows and presentations. I can keep going on my expenses, but you get the feeling.

I worked as a “Shop Guide”, and the income was better besides a whole lot less headaches.

Wow. should have followed my Dad and been a mechanic, just paid $94 an hour to have my car repaired. A full day with him costs $750 plus parts.

The credit card system set up through my bank would take 4% of the fee and then had monthly fees of $50 to $75 depending upon how many transactions. Paypal looks good.

John and Norrine can set you up with the shuttle person, Kelly Reep. You will love the cabins, right on the river and lots of wading right out the door of the cabins. You will be floating the Quality Zone/Caddis Riffle section based on generation. It has been fishing good, caddis coming off everyday. The end of May will be back to normal hatches, some caddis, BWO’s, cranefly’s, midges and the occasional sulphur.

Welcome to my home waters and hope you have a great trip, give us a report after the trip.

The best fly is from Cap’t Jack Brown of Bay Street Outfitters, it is the “Lowcountry Electric Chicken”

It was deadly on tailing reds for me this year, check it out:http://www.flytyer.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=137&Itemid=86
