Don’t forget the Todd’s Wiggle Minnow. It is deadly, can be used on the surface, just under with sinking tips and on the bottom with full sinks.

It is my go to fly for smallies.

When checking the Nolichucky flow rates at Embreeville, anything above 1500 cfs is fast and usually muddy. This will put a damper on fishing. We have had a bunch of rain along the upper Chucky and into Western North Carolina where it starts.

So to answer your question I like to stay under 1500 cfs when taking clients to fish the river.

I know of a person/character who lives along the Nolichucky and his nickname is Catfish. He is truly a character.

I and my guide partner will be there in a double outside booth. We will have our custom handbuilt wooden driftboat and skiff on display.

You can’t miss us, just look for the big yellow and green banner across the top of our tents.

Be sure to stop by and say hey.

That list is from Ian Rutter’s Smokies book.

My experience in the Smokies has been to use Thunderheads, Royal and Tennessee Wulffs, orange and yellow Stimulators for dries. Use Prince’s, Tellico’s, Copper Johns (red, brown, green) for nymphs. Also don’t forget to use some size 2, 4, and 6 buggers in black, olive and rust.

    Just my $.02

The trailer was purchased from a local trailer maker and modified by me with a roller system for the raft to glide on as you winch it on the trailer. I have about $1200 in the trailer. The trailer is 5 ft wide by 14 ft long (bed dimensions)
The oars are 9 1/2 footers.

Just as John said a good trailer and full pulley anchor system, like mine has, will help as you spend the day on the river.

John and his Dad have spent a few days on the river in my raft and can tell you how my system works well.
