Actually, there are 14 stores in addition to the flagship store in Maine, all east of the Mississippi.
I fished with Capt. Ben Floyd with The Charleston Angler and had a great time last November. I recommend you check them out.

One step ahead my friend. I ordered 2 of those this morning and the specs say to just lay a bead of caulk around the opening and drop the cup holders in. All we need to do is drill out the openings. They should show up sometime this week.Yes, I am a little biased being a casting instructor but, I do believe you’ll never regret learning to cast well. It’s a tremendous frustration when you see a fish and you can’t get your fly anywhere near it to do any good. So, that would be my first recommendation.
Secondly, read fly fishing books like crazy, such as on the topic of “reading water”.
Thirdly, if you can afford it, hire a guide and explain your lack of experience and your expectations for the day. Not all guides are able to instruct casting. They can recommend flies and find fish, but not all can or even want to teach casting. Don’t be afraid to tell them exactly what you expect.
Fourth, fish with as many people you can.
Fifth, visit forums like this one and don’t be afraid to ask questions. We’ve all been where you’re at.
Sixth, again if you can afford it, consider attending a 2-3 day fly fishing school. Having attended all three of Joan Wulff’s schools, I can attest that it will teach you alot and bring you up to speed more quickly.

Just make certain the rod and reel is BUILT for the salt. Corrosion does terrible things to freshwater equipment. The reel must have a sealed drag. Still, you must remember to rinse off all your gear and dry it down after every use if you expect it to give you many years of use.

I’d like you to consider a podcast with Sheila Hassan. She’s an FFF Master Casting Instructor (as is her husband, Bill), has just come out with her own book on casting and is now the lead instructor of the Wulff School of Fly Fishing. Needless to say, she’s a very talented and excellent instructor.

RalphI just found out I have a few spots of solar keratosis, which is the precursor to skin cancer. Did your doctor have you try the topical fluorouracil cream before recommending surgery? I’d be interested in hearing more about your case since this is so new to me and I haven’t run across anyone who has had it. PM me if you wish.
I’ll be starting that treatment in January as I’ve been told it cause a reddish skin reaction (which isn’t very pretty).

Just my opinion but, I like the site the way it is now. Change does not necessarily translate to “better”. I think the current site looks “cleaner”, is easier to read and simply more pleasant in appearance.
I just spent some time with one of the Masters who helped with administering the testing. He, too, stated 5 took the tests and one passed.
When asked what the over-riding problem was, he said they all talked too much. They gave lengthy explanations when only short, concise ones were wanted. They wanted to tell everything they knew instead of keeping it short and broadening the explanation if and when asked.
